Veteran Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw has spoken out against the growing trend of people attending events without proper invitations, describing the act as disrespectful and inappropriate.
In a video shared on her Instagram page, the actress expressed concern over what she described as a persistent culture of gatecrashing at parties and social gatherings. She questioned the intentions of individuals who show up at events uninvited, stressing that such behaviour lacks basic courtesy.
“I want to talk about something rampant, has been rampant and is still rampant. I just want to ask those of you who show up uninvited at events and parties, what’s your purpose? What do you aim to achieve?” she said.
Henshaw also addressed those who receive invitations meant for a single guest but arrive with additional people without informing the host. According to her, such actions are inconsiderate and show a lack of respect for event organisers.
“Then, those of you who receive a card that admits only one person and invite all your village people, don’t check with the host; you pack people and come. What are you doing there? Why don’t you respect yourself and stay away? It’s rude, you’re a gate crasher,” she added.
She went on to advise individuals to value themselves enough to avoid places where they are not invited, emphasizing the importance of self-respect and proper conduct.
“Respect yourself enough to stay away from places you aren’t invited to. Like?” she concluded.
Her remarks have since sparked conversations online, with many social media users sharing their opinions on event etiquette and the boundaries that should be respected when it comes to invitations.
Beyond this recent comment, Kate Henshaw has consistently used her platform to speak on social issues and societal behaviour. During the trial involving Senator Natasha Akpoti, the actress publicly praised the lawmaker for challenging outdated views about women’s roles, highlighting the importance of strength and independence among women.
She has also previously weighed in on controversial lifestyle choices. Reacting to a statement by a woman who claimed she preferred dating internet fraudsters over working-class men, Henshaw warned that such mindsets could lead to dangerous consequences, linking them to cases of ritual-related crimes.
The actress is no stranger to public debate. Earlier, she faced criticism over her Father’s Day message, where she chose to celebrate only responsible fathers rather than all fathers. While some social media users accused her of applying double standards compared to her Mother’s Day message, Henshaw stood her ground.
