Nollywood actress Moyo Lawal has addressed a wave of online speculation linking her to the alleged arrest of a social media user, firmly denying any involvement and describing the claims as untrue.
The controversy grew out of an earlier conversation the actress had with her followers regarding persistent criticism of her appearance. Moyo had reacted to accusations about skin bleaching by sharing AI-generated photos of herself with a visibly darker complexion. Through that post, she questioned the intent of her critics and wondered aloud if the altered images would finally satisfy those constantly scrutinizing her looks. She also made the point that she is often singled out for something she believes a large percentage of people engage in.
As reactions poured in, a Twitter user identified as ScoobyDoe joined the conversation with a mocking tone, using her image to pass commentary and advise others. What began as online banter quickly took a dramatic turn when the same user later claimed he had been arrested and detained at Area F Police Station in Ikeja. He alleged that the situation escalated after his exchange with the actress, stating that he was held in custody for over a week until legal assistance secured his release.
The claim spread rapidly, drawing attention and sparking debate across social media platforms. Many questioned whether the actress had taken steps to silence criticism, while others doubted the authenticity of the story.
Breaking her silence on the matter, Moyo Lawal dismissed the allegation in clear terms, insisting she had no connection to any arrest. She explained that she neither has the power nor the desire to infringe on anyone’s fundamental rights simply because of an opinion expressed online, particularly one tied to an AI-generated image.
Reaffirming her stance, she said: “if she were to arrest someone, the public would know who she would arrest.”
She went on to address what she described as a recurring pattern of misinformation surrounding her public image. In her words, “there is always a false narrative about her online,” a statement that reflects her frustration with how quickly unverified claims gain traction.
Beyond denying the arrest story, the actress also made a direct appeal to those who continually criticize her. Rather than engaging in further conflict, she urged detractors to give her space and allow her to live freely, repeating her call for peace with the words “let her be.”
The situation has once again drawn attention to the intense scrutiny faced by public figures in the digital age, where personal opinions can quickly spiral into widespread controversy. For Moyo Lawal, the focus remains on correcting the narrative and distancing herself from claims she insists are entirely unfounded.
