Veteran Yoruba Nollywood actor Ganiu Nofiu has shared a deeply emotional account of one of the most painful periods of his life, revealing how he lost his young son while battling a serious illness.

Speaking during an interview on Oyinmomo TV, the respected actor recounted how he endured a year-long health struggle that left him unable to sleep, both day and night.

According to him, the experience was physically and emotionally draining, but he never attributed his condition to his acting career, despite assumptions that sometimes surround the profession.

“I was sick for a whole year; I couldn’t sleep, neither day nor night. I never believed it was my movie roles that caused it, because people who are not actors also fall sick and die,” he said.

However, the most heartbreaking part of his ordeal came during that difficult period. Alapini disclosed that while he was still trying to recover, tragedy struck his family with the loss of his four-year-old child.

“While I was three months ill, I lost my four-year-old child,” he revealed.

The painful revelation highlights the personal struggles many entertainers face behind the scenes, often away from the spotlight. For Alapini Osha, the loss of his child during a time when he was already physically weak made the experience even more devastating.

His story has since resonated with many, as it sheds light on grief, resilience, and the unpredictable nature of life.

Sadly, Alapini’s experience is not an isolated one within the Nigerian entertainment industry, as several public figures have also faced the heartbreaking loss of children in recent years.

In March, singer Shanko Rasheed announced the death of her son, sharing the devastating news on social media and expressing that no parent should have to endure such pain.

Similarly, veteran actress Peju Ogunmola and her husband, Sunday Omobolanle, lost their only child, Ayomikun, after a brief illness in Ibadan. The loss was confirmed through a statement released by the family’s spokesperson.

In another tragic case, actor Francis Duru mourned the passing of his son, Ifeanyi, in 2024. He described his late son as a fighter who battled bravely for his life, expressing both grief and submission to God’s will.

Comedian Aphrican Ace also experienced a heartbreaking loss when he and his wife lost their newborn son, who passed away shortly after birth. The comedian described the pain as overwhelming, noting how their joy quickly turned into mourning.

Likewise, in 2023, skit maker Olagunju Solomon Olamide lost his son on Father’s Day. He shared the tragic news online, revealing that he had been preparing to celebrate the day with a photo of himself and his child before the sudden loss occurred.

These incidents collectively underscore the emotional challenges faced by many families, regardless of status or profession.

For Alapini Osha, speaking out about his experience not only honours the memory of his late child but also serves as a reminder of the importance of empathy and support for those going through similar pain.

Despite the tragedy, the veteran actor continues to remain a respected figure in Nollywood, with many fans and colleagues offering words of encouragement as he reflects on one of the darkest moments of his life.
