Nigerian comedian I Go Save has publicly criticised Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh following the circulation of a video showing her conducting what she described as a spiritual deliverance for a schoolgirl.
The controversy began after the actress shared footage from one of her weekly outreach programmes. In the video, Dikeh visited a school where she prayed for a young student, claiming the child needed deliverance. While explaining her actions, the actress said God had once delivered her from the “Marine world” and that she now serves as an instrument to help others find spiritual freedom.
However, the clip quickly sparked reactions online, with many critics questioning the appropriateness of performing such a spiritual act on a young child.
Reacting to the situation via his Instagram story, comedian I Go Save strongly condemned the move, accusing the actress of seeking attention instead of addressing more pressing societal issues.
According to him, it was ironic that she chose to focus on delivering a primary school child while remaining silent about politicians he believes are responsible for Nigeria’s economic struggles.
“You leave the plenty politicians piloting this country into poverty and milking our National treasures that are your friends; Na small girl wey dey primary school you see to go deliver,” he wrote.
The comedian further suggested that the actress might be using the situation for publicity, urging her to take things more calmly.
“I know you like seeking attention, but pls calm down. Because we never really even sure say your call them even pick am sef. You dey wan go shook finger for the small girl eyes in the name of healing.
Abi na YouTube missionary views hustle you don start so?” he added.
His comments came amid widespread criticism directed at the actress on social media.
Among those who reacted was Nollywood actress Doris Ogala, who condemned the act and described it as unacceptable. She questioned the motive behind the incident and raised concerns about the involvement of a minor in such an activity.
Ogala also called on the Nigerian authorities to investigate the situation, asking questions about the roles played by the child’s parents and the school management.
Nigerian social media critic VeryDarkMan also weighed in on the controversy. He revealed that the school where the incident reportedly occurred was among those he had previously renovated.
VeryDarkMan criticised the actress for involving children in what he described as unnecessary drama, warning that such actions should not happen again in the community.
According to him, influential individuals would not attempt similar acts with children from wealthy families.
He also stated that he had informed people in the area to ensure such an incident does not repeat itself, urging the actress to instead focus on raising awareness about the difficult economic realities many Nigerians currently face.
Meanwhile, actress Angela Eguavoen reacted briefly in the comment section of a blog post covering the controversy, simply writing “hmmmm,” a response that drew curiosity from fans.
Actress Wumi Toriola also posted a cryptic message on social media, directing a prayer to God and asking Him to use her as an instrument, a statement many interpreted as an indirect reaction to the unfolding debate.
Despite the backlash, Tonto Dikeh appeared unfazed by the criticism. The actress continued sharing additional videos from the deliverance session online, expressing gratitude to God for what she described as a testimony.
She wrote that she remains focused on her spiritual assignment and is grateful for the opportunity to serve as a vessel for divine work.
The actress has recently been active in charity and outreach activities. Just a week before the controversial deliverance video surfaced, she visited the children’s and women’s wards at the National Hospital Abuja.
During the visit, she prayed for patients, laid hands on some of them, and offered financial support to several individuals receiving treatment. According to her, the emotional atmosphere in the hospital was overwhelming, particularly in the children’s ward.
She said the level of pain she witnessed made it difficult for her to leave immediately, as she felt compelled to spend time encouraging and supporting the patients.
While opinions remain divided, the viral video has continued to spark conversations online about faith-based outreach, the protection of minors, and the role of public figures in carrying out spiritual activities in public spaces.
