Nollywood actress Mercy Aigbe has expressed sympathy for her colleague Faithia Williams following the burial of the latter’s mother.
Faithia recently lost her mother just a day before celebrating her 55th birthday, a loss the actress described as deeply painful. She had earlier revealed that the reality of her mother’s death was still difficult to process, describing her as her “cheerleader, prayer warrior, best friend, and gist partner.”
The late matriarch was finally laid to rest on Saturday, March 7, during an emotional ceremony attended by family members, friends, and several figures from the Nollywood industry.
Sharing a video from the burial ceremony, Mercy Aigbe was seen comforting Faithia during the difficult moment. In her message, Aigbe noted that she could relate to the pain because she recently experienced a similar loss.
“Today I stood beside my Big Sis @faithiawilliams as she laid her beloved mother to rest.
Having recently walked this painful path myself, I know how heavy this moment is.
May God grant her mum eternal rest and give you and your family the strength to carry on.
You are always in my heart and prayers.
Mothers are truly a gift we never stop missing.
ADIEU MAMA.”
Aigbe’s words resonated with many fans, especially because she herself lost her mother not long ago. In September 2024, the actress announced the death of her mother, Mrs. Abisola Grace Owodunni, through an emotional post on Instagram. She shared a candlelight image alongside the simple but heartbreaking caption, “RIP mum.”
Following the announcement, the actress received an outpouring of support from fans, colleagues, and well-wishers. In a later message, she expressed gratitude for the encouragement she received during that period.
She thanked the public for their messages, prayers, and kind words, saying the overwhelming show of love helped her family cope with the difficult time.
At the time, Aigbe also opened up about the emotional toll of preparing for a loved one’s burial. She described the experience as mentally and emotionally exhausting, noting that planning funeral arrangements can be deeply distressing.
According to her, visiting cemeteries, selecting burial vaults, and choosing coffins were among the painful tasks that made the reality of the loss even more difficult to bear. She admitted that the emotions she felt during the process were difficult to fully describe.
Despite the grief, the actress later organised a grand burial ceremony in November 2024 to celebrate her mother’s life.
The event drew a large turnout from the entertainment industry and beyond, as colleagues gathered to support her during the final farewell. Among those present were Iyabo Ojo, Toyin Abraham, Odunlade Adekola, Mide Martins and her husband Afeez Owo, Eniola Ajao, Nkechi Blessing, Femi Adebayo, Saidi Balogun, and Foluke Daramola, among others.
Other notable figures who attended included Olori Ashley, one of the wives of the Ooni of Ife, and former lawmaker Abike Dabiri-Erewa.
Ahead of the burial ceremony, Aigbe had written an emotional tribute to her late mother, describing her as a blessing and a guiding presence in her life.
She prayed that God would grant the family strength during the painful period, reflecting on the cherished memories they shared. According to her, her mother was “a quiet light and a gentle guide” whose presence would always remain in their hearts.
Now, months after her own loss, Mercy Aigbe is standing by Faithia Williams as she navigates a similar journey of grief. Her message of support underscores the strong bond that exists among colleagues in Nollywood, especially during moments of personal loss.
