Actress Iyabo Ojo has broken her silence on the recent tense moment between Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham at the premiere of The Return of Arinzo in Lagos on Sunday.
The incident, which quickly went viral, sparked widespread speculation about the relationship between the two Nollywood stars.
In a detailed Instagram post on Tuesday, Iyabo clarified that the awkward encounter was rooted in a history of misunderstandings between the actresses.
She explained that she had previously gotten involved in online disputes, publicly criticizing Funke over issues related to Toyin’s projects.
“That was a wrong move on my part,” Iyabo admitted, adding that they had reconciled after addressing their differences privately.
Iyabo further revealed that she had attempted to mediate peace between Funke and Toyin, even going so far as to plead with both parties to resolve issues away from public scrutiny.
She noted that earlier this year, the actresses were on good terms and had agreed to handle future conflicts privately.
However, tensions resurfaced in December when Toyin raised concerns about the cinema release of her movie, with some fans pointing fingers at Funke.
Regarding Toyin’s absence from The Return of Arinzo, Iyabo said that the actress was initially signed on but pulled out due to travel commitments and exhaustion.
This last-minute change required script adjustments, which Iyabo admitted were challenging. Despite the setback, she emphasized that the production continued smoothly and Toyin had apologized, leaving no lingering hard feelings.
Iyabo expressed disappointment at the online backlash surrounding the premiere incident, noting that the negativity overshadowed the film’s upcoming release.
“The sky is big enough for all of us,” she wrote, urging fans to respect her decision to step back from further involvement. She emphasized her enduring affection for both actresses and reassured that when the timing is right, they would reconcile fully.
The premiere clip showing Funke walking past Toyin without acknowledging her greeting fueled speculation about a fresh fallout.
Reports indicate that Toyin later commented on social media, stating she had unfollowed Funke, though she later deleted the comment. Both actresses have also unfollowed each other on Instagram, adding to rumors of renewed tension.
Despite the controversy, Iyabo remains focused on her project. The Return of Arinzo is set to premiere nationwide on April 3, 2026, and Iyabo hopes audiences will enjoy the film without getting distracted by off-screen drama.
In closing, Iyabo Ojo appealed for patience from fans and the public, reiterating her love and respect for both Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham. She urged that any reconciliation be left to the actresses themselves, emphasizing that her role was only to facilitate peace where possible.
