Renowned Nigerian music producer and executive Osabuohien Osaretin, popularly known as Sarz, has drawn attention to how poor infrastructure, particularly unreliable electricity, is stifling creativity in Nigeria.

Speaking on the Afropolitan podcast, Sarz highlighted the direct impact that power outages have on the country’s creative sector, where inspiration can strike anytime but the environment often fails to keep up.

He narrates his personal struggles growing up in Nigeria, emphasizing that uninterrupted electricity is a luxury he has never experienced.

“I grew up here, and I’ve never had electricity all day, every day. Sometimes I wake up full of ideas and ready to make music, but there’s no power.

Even simple tasks like buying fuel can be complicated due to strikes or shortages. You end up accomplishing nothing, and your potential goes to waste,” Sarz explained.

For creatives, timing is everything. A spark of inspiration can be fleeting, and when it coincides with power cuts or logistical challenges, opportunities are lost. Sarz stressed that a proper working environment is not just convenient it is essential for productivity and creativity.

“To perform at your best, a creative mind needs the right environment. When basic infrastructure is missing just when your mind is ready, it becomes a huge obstacle,” he added.

Nigeria’s entertainment industry, despite its global influence, continues to face these systemic challenges, which limit growth and innovation. Sarz’s comments underscore the urgent need for reliable electricity and infrastructure improvements to support the country’s creative talents.

By addressing these foundational issues, Nigeria can ensure that its artists, producers, and creatives reach their full potential without being hindered by avoidable setbacks.

Sarz’s insight is a reminder that while creativity thrives on talent and passion, it also requires basic support systems to flourish, and the country’s economic and cultural future depends on it.
