American rapper and music executive Sean Combs, popularly known as Diddy, is now expected to regain his freedom earlier than initially projected, following an adjustment to his prison release schedule.

According to updated records from the Federal Bureau of Prisons cited by Page Six and reported by The Sun, the Bad Boy Records founder’s release date has been moved forward by approximately six weeks. His previously scheduled release of June 4, 2028, has now been revised to April 25, 2028.

Combs is currently serving a 50-month sentence at Fort Dix Federal Correctional Institution after being convicted on prostitution-related offences. The sentence followed a high-profile trial that saw him cleared of more severe racketeering and sex trafficking charges — acquittals that significantly reduced the potential length of his imprisonment.

Rehabilitation Programme Influences Timeline

The updated release date comes months after Combs enrolled in the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP) in November. Participation in the rehabilitation initiative can make eligible inmates qualify for sentence reductions.

At the time of his enrolment, a representative for the rapper stated that he had taken the programme seriously from the outset.

“Mr Combs is an active participant in the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP) and has taken his rehabilitation process seriously from the start,” the spokesperson said. “He is fully engaged in his work, focused on growth, and committed to positive change.”

The Bureau of Prisons allows certain inmates who complete RDAP to receive time credits, which appears to have contributed to the adjustment in Combs’ projected release date.

Earlier Setback Over Prison Allegations

The revised timeline marks yet another shift in his anticipated release. Initially, Combs was expected to be freed on May 8, 2028. However, that date was later pushed back to June 4, 2028, after reports surfaced alleging he had violated prison regulations.

Media reports claimed the music mogul consumed homemade alcohol and participated in an unauthorised three-way telephone call. TMZ alleged the improvised drink was concocted using sugar, Fanta, and apples left to ferment for about two weeks.

His legal representatives disputed aspects of those claims, particularly the phone call allegation. They argued that the communication fell under attorney-client privilege and should not have been classified as misconduct.

Addressing public speculation at the time, a spokesperson told Page Six that Combs was focused on adjusting to prison life and prioritising personal development.

“As with any high-profile individual in a new environment, there will be many rumours and exaggerated stories throughout his time there — most of them untrue,” the representative said, urging the public to allow him privacy to concentrate on rehabilitation.

Life Behind Bars

Recently circulated images published by TMZ offered the first glimpse of Combs inside the correctional facility. In the photos, he appeared relaxed, dressed in a grey pullover and sweatpants, with a grey goatee, smiling as he walked through a prison corridor.

Reports indicate he has been working in the prison’s laundry unit while serving his sentence. He also marked his 56th birthday behind bars with a modest celebration that reportedly included a pizza meal.

Before sentencing, Combs penned a four-page letter expressing regret and accountability. In the emotional note, he admitted to personal failings and described his incarceration as transformative.

“I literally lost my mind. I’m sorry for that and always will be… I lost my way. My downfall was rooted in my selfishness,” he wrote. “I have been humbled and broken to my core… The old me died in jail and a new version of me was born. Prison will change you or kill you — I choose to live.”

Appeal And Pardon Consideration

Despite the adjusted release date, Combs’ legal fight is ongoing. In December, he filed an appeal seeking either immediate release or a reduction of his sentence. His attorneys argued that prosecutors failed to sufficiently establish key components of their case and claimed the punishment violated his constitutional rights. Prosecutors formally opposed the appeal in February.

Additionally, discussions reportedly took place regarding the possibility of a presidential pardon. Donald Trump acknowledged that numerous individuals had requested clemency, including the rapper.

“A lot of people have asked me for pardons. I call him Puff Daddy; he has asked me for a pardon,” Trump stated at the time.

Combs has remained in custody since his arrest in September 2024. While his legal team continues to challenge aspects of his conviction, the newly revised April 2028 release date marks the clearest indication yet that his prison term may conclude sooner than once anticipated.
