Nollywood actor Olanrewaju Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, has spoken publicly for the first time since regaining his freedom, claiming that the incident which led to his imprisonment was a set-up.

The actor made the revelation in a video posted on his YouTube channel titled “Eniwaye Dáràn,” where he addressed the controversy surrounding the 2021 case that led to his conviction.

In the video, Baba Ijesha claimed that he was betrayed by someone he trusted and alleged that the situation was deliberately arranged to silence him.

Baba Ijesha was arrested in April 2021 after actress Princess accused him of sexually assaulting her 14-year-old foster daughter. The case quickly attracted widespread public attention and sparked heated debates across Nigeria, particularly within the Nollywood industry.

Speaking in the video, the actor said his voice had been suppressed throughout the ordeal and that he wanted people to finally hear his own version of events.

“My trust was betrayed. I ended up in Kirikiri prison because of a woman. She asked them to silence me so that my voice would not be heard. Please listen to my own side of the story,” he said.

According to Baba Ijesha, the incident that led to his arrest happened on April 21, 2021. He claimed that Princess invited him to her residence, telling him she had prepared his favourite meal.

He further alleged that he was also told there was a movie role waiting for him, which was part of the reason he agreed to visit.

However, the actor said he later realised that there was no film project and claimed the entire situation had been orchestrated in a way that ultimately led to his arrest.

Baba Ijesha also used the opportunity to warn his fans about trust and relationships, stating that the experience had changed his outlook on people.

“Please, my fans, be careful with friends. They cannot be trusted. The world is evil, and human beings are more wicked than venomous snakes,” he added.

His statement has since sparked mixed reactions across social media, with many Nigerians revisiting the highly controversial case. While some people expressed sympathy and curiosity about his claims, others insisted that the court had already delivered its judgment and the matter should remain settled.

The case was one of the most widely discussed legal controversies in the Nigerian entertainment industry at the time. Following his arrest and trial, Baba Ijesha was sentenced to prison, a development that triggered intense public debate and divided opinions within Nollywood and beyond.

After serving his sentence, the actor was released in November 2025. His latest video appears to be his first major public comment since leaving prison.

With his recent claims now circulating online, discussions surrounding the case have once again resurfaced, as many observers continue to share different perspectives on the matter and the events that led to his conviction.
