Nigerian dancer and choreographer Kaffy Shafau has commended actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele and media personality Morayo Afolabi-Brown for their impact and influence following their participation in a recent International Women’s Day event hosted by Wema Bank.
The event featured a fireside chat between Akindele and Afolabi-Brown, where both women reflected on their journeys, professional experiences, and the challenges they have overcome in their respective industries. Sharing moments from the gathering on social media, Kaffy described the discussion as an inspiring experience that highlighted the strength and accomplishments of both personalities.
According to her, the conversation provided an opportunity to witness two influential women share insights from their careers while encouraging others to pursue their goals with confidence.
“I had the pleasure of listening to two remarkable women in conversation; Funke Akindele and Morayo Brown, and it was such a powerful moment to witness,” Kaffy wrote while posting photos from the event.
The choreographer particularly praised Akindele for her long-standing contributions to the Nigerian film industry, noting that the actress has consistently challenged limitations and created new opportunities in a field that was once largely dominated by men.
Kaffy explained that she has long admired Akindele’s dedication to her craft and her determination to expand the possibilities within African storytelling and film distribution.
“Funke is someone I hold with deep respect. Over the years, I have watched her continue to push boundaries in an industry that was once heavily male-dominated. Through her work, her boldness, and her unwavering commitment to her craft, she has helped reshape the landscape of African storytelling and cinema distribution,” she said.
She added that Akindele’s achievements serve as proof that ambition and authenticity can exist side by side.
“She has proven time and time again that excellence has no ceiling — breaking records, raising standards, and reminding the industry that authenticity and audacity can coexist,” Kaffy stated.
Beyond celebrating Akindele’s accomplishments in film, Kaffy also applauded Afolabi-Brown for her consistent influence in the media and broadcasting sector. According to her, the television host has maintained a strong voice in journalism while encouraging thoughtful conversations that shape public opinion.
She described Afolabi-Brown as a respected figure who has built a reputation for engaging audiences with intelligence and poise.
“Morayo Brown, on the other hand, has remained a strong and steady voice in media and journalism. She has held her ground with grace and intelligence, creating space for meaningful conversations and perspectives that continue to shape public discourse,” Kaffy noted.
Kaffy said witnessing the interaction between the two women was particularly inspiring because of the resilience and authenticity they both bring to their professional journeys. For her, the fireside discussion was more than just a celebration of achievements; it was also a reminder of the perseverance required to maintain leadership roles in highly visible industries.
“Watching the fireside chat between these two women was inspiring, not just because of their achievements, but also because of the strength, resilience, and authenticity they both bring to their journeys,” she added.
The dancer concluded by emphasising the importance of celebrating women who continue to excel despite the challenges that often accompany leadership and public visibility.
She noted that acknowledging such accomplishments can inspire others to pursue their ambitions and remain committed to their paths.
“Celebrating women like this is important not just for their accomplishments, but for the courage it takes to stay the course despite the storms that come with visibility and leadership,” Kaffy said.
She ended her message by congratulating both women and expressing admiration for their continued success.
“Giving these incredible women their flowers today. Well done, sisters,” she wrote, while also acknowledging the organisers of the International Women’s Day event.
