Fintech company OPay has dismissed recent online reports claiming that its offices in Lagos and Abuja were sealed by the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) over alleged non-compliance with Value Added Tax (VAT) and Company Income Tax under the Nigeria Tax Act 2025.

The company stated that all its offices across Nigeria remain open and fully operational, continuing to serve customers, partners, and merchants without interruption.

OPay emphasized its commitment to full compliance with all relevant tax obligations and regulatory standards, noting that it works transparently with government agencies to ensure its operations meet statutory requirements.

The fintech firm clarified that the notice cited in recent reports stemmed from an industry-wide directive issued by the NRS, instructing payment platforms to clearly separate certain statutory charges on their applications for better reconciliation and transparency. This clarification applies to multiple operators in the sector and does not indicate any tax default by OPay.

The company also condemned what it described as misleading and selective reporting that appeared to single out OPay unfairly.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the information currently circulating online suggesting that OPay is shutting down or that our offices have been closed should be disregarded, as it does not reflect the true situation,” the statement read.

OPay reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nigeria’s digital economy by providing secure, reliable, and inclusive financial services to millions of users nationwide.
