Veteran Nollywood actress, Joke Silva, has opened up about one of the perks of marrying older men, drawing from her own long-lasting marriage to fellow actor Olu Jacob.

Speaking on the TVC program Your View, the 64-year-old actress reflected on her relationship and the wisdom she has gained over decades in both life and career.

Joke Silva and Olu Jacob’s love story dates back to 1985 when they got married. At the time, Olu Jacob was 44 years old, while Silva was just 24, marking a 20-year age difference between the couple.

Despite the significant gap, the duo has maintained a strong and enduring relationship, blessed with two children. Silva explained that one of the advantages of marrying an older man is the freedom and leeway it provides women in the relationship.

Reflecting on their first encounter, Silva admitted that it was not love at first sight for her. “Yes, we met on stage, and when we met on a movie set, everybody knew it was the great Olu Jacob who was coming, except me.

When he came, we got on very well, and it was after we started dating that I discovered his age because he looked so good,” she shared.

For Olu Jacob, however, the connection was immediate. “For him, it was love at first sight, but for me, it wasn’t,” Silva revealed.

She noted that the age difference contributed to a dynamic in their relationship where older men tend to allow women to get away with certain things, suggesting a level of patience, understanding, and tolerance that comes with experience.

Over the years, the couple has defied the odds often associated with age-gap relationships, showing that respect, communication, and shared values can create a lasting bond. Joke Silva’s reflections highlight how maturity can shape a relationship positively, providing room for growth and understanding.

She emphasized that her husband’s wisdom and life experience have been instrumental in navigating the complexities of both marriage and family life.

Joke Silva’s story also offers insight into the nuances of relationships within the Nollywood industry, where personal and professional lives often intersect.

Her candidness about her marriage to Olu Jacob provides a rare glimpse into how age differences can influence dynamics, fostering a sense of security and support.

Their union continues to be celebrated, both for its longevity and the mutual respect that has endured across decades.

Through her reflections, Silva underscores the value of patience, love, and adaptability in sustaining a successful marriage.

Her experience shows that while love may not always be instantaneous, it can grow steadily, especially when nurtured with understanding and a willingness to embrace differences.

As a veteran in the industry, Silva’s insights serve as both inspiration and guidance for younger couples navigating similar relationships, demonstrating that with the right mindset, age becomes less a barrier and more a source of wisdom and stability.
