Brazilian football star Neymar has reportedly been taken to court by a former personal chef who claims she was subjected to exhausting working conditions while employed at his luxury residence in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
According to reports cited by football outlet GOAL and Brazilian media platform Metropoles, the woman alleged in court documents that her responsibilities went far beyond what was initially agreed in her employment contract.
She claimed that while she was originally hired to prepare meals for the footballer, her duties quickly expanded to cooking for large groups of people who frequently visited the property.
The chef alleged that she was often required to prepare meals not only for Neymar but also for dozens of his friends and associates who gathered at the mansion. In some cases, she claimed the number of people she had to cater for reached as many as 150 guests at a time.
According to the lawsuit, the demanding nature of the work forced her into extremely long shifts that stretched well beyond the hours specified in her contract.
The agreement reportedly stated that she would work from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Monday to Thursday, and from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays.
However, the former employee claimed her work frequently continued until 11 p.m. or even midnight. She further alleged that she was sometimes required to work during weekends, despite those days not being part of the original work schedule.
The woman also accused the Brazilian forward of denying her the legally required lunch break. In her complaint, she claimed she was instructed to clock in for the break even though she continued working during that time.
“The claimant did not regularly enjoy a lunch break. Throughout the entire employment contract, the plaintiff was required by the defendant to clock in for the lunch break, even though she remained actively working during that period,” part of the lawsuit reportedly stated.
Beyond the long hours, the chef also alleged that the job caused serious physical strain and health problems.
She claimed the work involved repeatedly lifting heavy grocery bags and carrying large portions of meat weighing around 10 kilograms during extended shifts in the kitchen.
According to her, the physical demands of the job eventually led to severe back pain and inflammation in her hip, conditions she believes were directly caused by the nature of the work she was required to perform.
The lawsuit also revealed that the chef reportedly earned about £1,065 per month while working at Neymar’s mansion in Mangaratiba.
She is now demanding £37,544 in compensation to cover unpaid overtime, severance benefits, medical expenses, penalties, and damages related to the alleged denial of proper rest periods.
As of the time of filing the lawsuit, Neymar has not publicly responded to the allegations.
Meanwhile, the Brazilian forward, who currently plays for Santos FC and the Brazil national football team, is focused on securing a place in the squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.
