“I was nearly duped” – Woli Arole shares shocking scam encounter

 Actor and comedian Woli Arole has shared a startling account of how he narrowly escaped falling victim to an online scam, offering a cautionary tale to fans and social media users about the growing sophistication of fraudsters.

Taking to his Instagram page on Tuesday, the popular skit maker recounted how an unidentified individual attempted to lure him into a deceptive scheme under the guise of a divine instruction.

 According to Arole, the scammer claimed that God had directed them to gift him a brand new jeep located in Togo, an offer that initially appeared unusual but not entirely impossible given his public profile.

However, the situation quickly took a suspicious turn when the individual demanded that Arole send a sum of ₦400,000.

 The money, the scammer explained, was allegedly meant to pay a driver who would deliver the vehicle to him, or alternatively, facilitate arrangements if Arole chose to travel to Togo to pick it up himself.

Expressing his disbelief and relief, Arole wrote humorously, “I was nearly duped this year. Omo if you’re greedy 419 go scam you oooo. One guy messaged me he said ‘Arole God asked me to give you a jeep in Togo. 

Send me 400k so I can give the driver that will drive it or will you come to TOGO’,” punctuating the message with laughing emojis to highlight the absurdity of the situation.

Despite the comedic tone of his narration, the underlying message was clear greed and desperation can make individuals vulnerable to manipulation. 

By sharing his experience, Arole not only entertained his audience but also shed light on a common tactic used by scammers: exploiting religious sentiments and promises of unexpected wealth to gain trust.

Arole’s revelation comes at a time when online scams are becoming increasingly prevalent, with fraudsters adopting more creative and personalized approaches to deceive their targets.
