Social media personality Izegbe Ogbeide has publicly called on the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) to sponsor her upcoming book designed to educate young girls on how to stay safe from exploitation.
Ogbeide, who has shared her personal experiences, expressed frustration over what she described as NAPTIP’s failure to respond to her earlier letters.
“NAPTIP, you failed me. You didn’t protect me, which I can confidently say,” she said, recalling that she first reached out in 2017 through official channels, including a letter sent via her representative from Manchester on government paper.
She revealed that her letters were ignored, even as other authorities like the UK Government responded promptly.
“The UK replied within two weeks and informed me they would provide 5 million to support human rights initiatives in Nigeria to tackle trafficking. NAPTIP, you didn’t reply,” she lamented.
Her proposed book, she says, will serve as a practical guide for girls, giving them critical awareness about unsafe travel and human trafficking.
“I WANT TO WRITE A BOOK, made available for every girl child, so that once they see it, they don’t need to be told or advised they will know the right thing to do,” she explained.
Ogbeide emphasized that she wants the project produced by a top UK publisher to ensure quality.
“The cost is around $30, but the impact will be priceless. I know my book will do a better job than what NAPTIP is currently doing,” she added.
She highlighted the importance of early education in preventing exploitation, comparing it to programs her children experience in the UK. “Today, kids in the UK are taught how to stay safe from drugs and dangers. Nigerian girls need the same guidance,” she said.
Ogbeide concluded by urging NAPTIP to back the initiative. “Sponsor my book and help save the lives of girls across Nigeria and beyond. Education is the first line of defense,” she stressed.
