Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, has spoken publicly for the first time since regaining his freedom from prison, claiming he was betrayed by people he once trusted.
The actor made the remarks in a recently released music video where he reflected on the events that led to his incarceration and the emotional toll the experience had on him.
In the video, Baba Ijesha suggested that human beings can be more dangerous and treacherous than snakes, stressing that betrayal from people close to him ultimately led to his downfall.
Baba Ijesha was released from custody in November 2025 after serving a five-year jail sentence handed down by a Lagos court.
The conviction followed a highly publicised case involving allegations of sexual assault made by comedian Damilola Adekoya. In 2021, Princess accused the actor of sexually assaulting her 14-year-old foster daughter at her residence in Lagos, an allegation that sparked widespread outrage and intense public debate across Nigeria.
Following his arrest that same year, Baba Ijesha faced trial in court, where he was eventually found guilty and sentenced to prison.
The case became one of the most talked-about scandals in the Nigerian entertainment industry at the time, drawing reactions from celebrities, activists and members of the public.
However, in his latest remarks, Baba Ijesha maintained that he was wrongly accused and claimed he had been deliberately set up.
According to him, the events that led to his arrest began on April 21, 2021, when Princess allegedly invited him to her house under the pretext of preparing his favourite meal and discussing a potential movie role.
The actor said he believed the invitation was genuine and went to the location expecting to discuss work opportunities.
He claimed that upon arriving at the residence, he met individuals who presented themselves as members of a film production team and asked him to rehearse a role.
Baba Ijesha alleged that he later discovered the supposed movie project did not exist and that the entire arrangement had been orchestrated to trap him.
“My trust was betrayed, and I ended up in Kirikiri prison because of a woman,” he said in the video. “She asked them to silence me so that my voice would not be heard. Please listen to my own side of the story.”
The actor further expressed his disappointment over how the situation unfolded, insisting that the real offender was still walking free while he bore the consequences.
He also used the opportunity to warn fans and members of the public about trusting people too easily, stating that betrayal can often come from those considered friends.
“Please my fans, be careful with friends. They cannot always be trusted. The world is evil, and human beings can be more wicked than venomous snakes,” he said.
Baba Ijesha’s comments have once again stirred conversation on social media, with many Nigerians revisiting the controversial case that led to his imprisonment. While some people have expressed sympathy toward the actor, others continue to support the original court verdict and the accusations that led to his conviction.
The release of the video has therefore reopened public debate around one of Nollywood’s most controversial legal cases in recent years.
