Nigerian content creator and philanthropist Mitchell Mukoro, popularly known as King Mitchy, has publicly apologised following weeks of intense online criticism over a series of controversial actions, including a live video in which she consumed an unspecified substance on camera.

In a video shared on her Instagram page on Thursday, King Mitchy addressed Nigerians, activist VeryDarkMan, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, taking full responsibility for her actions.

“Good morning Nigerians. I’m ready to be held accountable for my actions. For some days I’ve thought about my behaviour and I know that I was wrong and I want to be held accountable,” she said. “For the substance I took on live video, that was very wrong of me because there are young girls that are looking up to me one day and I know I disappointed a lot of people. That was wrong of me, I was wrong.”

King Mitchy specifically apologised to Seyi Tinubu, acknowledging the public nature of her disrespect. “And my boss ST, I’m so sorry. I know I apologised privately but I did not disrespect you privately, I disrespected you publicly so I want to apologise publicly. I’m so sorry sir. I want you to know that I will never take your support for granted.”

Turning to the Ooni of Ife, she knelt and expressed regret, saying, “I’m so sorry, sir. I’m so sorry for bringing your name into this, I’m so sorry daddy.” She also addressed VeryDarkMan: “You’re fighting for Nigerians and we can make Nigeria a better place and I’m sorry for coming at you like that. Maybe now I understand you better because I had to step back and understand the kind of person that you are… And you need more supporters, not people to fight you. I’m sorry my brother. Thank you, Nigerians.”

The apology comes after a series of controversies surrounding King Mitchy’s philanthropic work, including a rapid school renovation and comments perceived as criticism of VeryDarkMan. Public concern escalated after her live video incident, which initially led to unverified reports of her death. These claims were later retracted, with her management and Prime Care Hospital in Abuja confirming she is alive and recovering.

Responding to his involvement in the controversy, Seyi Tinubu clarified the nature of his connection with King Mitchy. On Instagram, he stated, “I met Mitchy once, in a public setting, alongside others. On that occasion, I provided financial support toward her NGO activities… There has never been a private encounter, no secret arrangement, and no impropriety of any kind.”

He further addressed the misuse of his name in the drama, particularly in reference to VeryDarkMan. “What is deeply concerning is that a feud I did not start, and in which I have played no part, has been used as a vehicle to insert my name into a narrative without basis in truth… Supporting charitable causes is not a crime. Meeting someone publicly to support their NGO is not a scandal. Repeating falsehoods loudly does not transform them into truth.”

King Mitchy’s public apology seeks to take accountability for her actions, clear up misunderstandings, and reassure Nigerians of her good intentions, particularly regarding her philanthropic work and interactions with high-profile individuals. The video reflects her effort to rebuild trust and demonstrate responsibility for the influence she wields online.

By confronting the controversy directly, King Mitchy hopes to set an example for responsible online conduct and emphasize the importance of accountability, particularly for content creators with large followings.

The incident underscores the growing impact of social media on public perception and the need for careful navigation of fame, philanthropy, and personal conduct.
