“The spotlight is on… and it’s time to get to know your nominees. Watch the #AMVCA12 Nominee Announcement LIVE | March 29 | 7PM WAT on #AfricaMagic channels,” the organisers stated.
The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, widely regarded as one of the most prestigious platforms celebrating African film and television, returns this year with expanded scope and renewed focus on inclusivity across the continent’s creative industries.
Earlier in the year, details about the 2026 edition were outlined in an official statement published on the Africa Magic website on January 10. The awards, organised by MultiChoice in partnership with Canal+, continue to recognise excellence in storytelling while promoting diversity across Africa’s film and television landscape.
Submissions for this year’s edition opened on January 11 and closed on February 15, 2026. Entries were accepted from films, television shows, and other eligible content that were publicly screened or broadcast between January 1 and December 31, 2025. To qualify, feature-length films were required to have been shown in cinemas, aired on television, or released via streaming platforms.
For its 12th edition, the AMVCA will feature a total of 32 award categories. These include 18 categories determined by a panel of judges, 11 audience-voted awards, and several special recognition honours such as Lifetime Achievement and Trailblazer awards. The combination of jury and public voting ensures a balance between industry expertise and fan engagement.
One of the major highlights of this year’s awards is the introduction of new categories aimed at broadening representation. These include Best Indigenous Language – North Africa and Best Indigenous Language – Central Africa, further expanding the platform’s reach and inclusivity.
Organisers explained that the addition of these categories reflects a deeper commitment to celebrating Africa’s linguistic and cultural diversity. By incorporating more regions, the awards aim to give a stronger voice to underrepresented communities and showcase the richness of storytelling across the continent.
“These additions reflect the AMVCA’s commitment to Pan-Africanism, cultural preservation, and equitable representation, ensuring that Africa’s diverse languages, regions, and creative voices are more fully celebrated on a continental stage,” the statement noted.
Over the years, the AMVCA has grown into a major cultural event, drawing participation from filmmakers, actors, and industry stakeholders across Africa and beyond. It has also become a key platform for recognising emerging talents while honouring established figures who have made significant contributions to the industry.
The awards ceremony itself is scheduled to take place in Lagos in May 2026, where winners across various categories will be announced. As always, the event is expected to bring together some of the biggest names in African entertainment, alongside rising stars eager to make their mark.
With the nominee announcement just days away, excitement continues to build among fans and industry observers alike. The March 29 reveal will not only spotlight the year’s standout productions but also set the stage for what promises to be another memorable edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.
