Veteran Nollywood actress Bimbo Akintola has opened up about why she does not lead the lavish lifestyle often associated with some of her colleagues in the Nigerian film industry. 

Speaking in a recent interview, the actress shed light on the harsh financial realities of Nollywood, emphasizing that acting alone does not guarantee wealth.

Akintola explained that while some actresses are perceived as wealthy, their affluence often comes from sources beyond acting.

 Earnings from platforms such as Africa Magic, according to her, are frequently insufficient to sustain extravagant living. 

“We hear stories of some actresses who do things with politicians for money. So when people ask me why I am not rich like the others, I tell them to go ask them what other jobs they do,” she said. 

This candid statement underscores the public misconception about the sources of wealth in the entertainment industry, as flashy lifestyles are often fueled by undisclosed ventures outside of acting fees.

The actress, who has been in Nollywood for decades, also highlighted that the popular portrayal of wealth online can be misleading. Social media and celebrity culture often showcase glamorous lifestyles without revealing the underlying financial realities. 

According to Akintola, many people mistakenly believe that acting alone can generate such income, whereas most of the reported wealth in the industry stems from business deals, endorsements, and personal investments rather than standard movie fees.

Bimbo Akintola further elaborated on the limited financial returns from local film productions and streaming platforms. 

“Cus we know how much Africa Magic & other platforms pay for a movie,” she explained, stressing that even veteran actors face constraints when it comes to financial growth purely through acting. 

Her remarks reflect a broader truth about Nollywood’s pay structure: while the industry produces a large volume of films and has a growing international audience, the remuneration for actors often does not match the high expectations created by public perception.
