The family of veteran Nigerian actor Pete Edochie has taken decisive action following viral rumors about the actor’s death. Reports circulated online claiming that Edochie had passed away, prompting widespread concern among fans and the public.

However, both the actor’s family and management quickly dismissed the claims, emphasizing that the reports were false.

Leo Edochie, Pete Edochie’s first son, took to social media to condemn the misinformation. In a viral Instagram video, he described the death rumors as “a lie from the pit of hell,” urging the public not to believe or share unverified news.

Beyond merely clarifying his father’s status, Leo announced that he had contacted the Department of State Services (DSS) to track down and arrest the Tiktoker responsible for posting the false claim.

According to Leo, the individual behind the viral video uses the handle @ONE_BOR 001 on Tiktok. Leo emphasized that spreading false news of this nature is not only harmful to the family but also has legal implications.

To encourage the public’s cooperation, he offered a cash reward to anyone who provides actionable information that could lead to the arrest of the Tiktoker. “DM me with the information, as soon as he is arrested, you will get your reward in cash,” Leo wrote alongside a photo of the individual in question.

This move by Edochie’s family highlights the growing problem of misinformation on social media platforms. False reports about celebrities’ deaths often go viral, generating panic and distress among fans and family members.

While social media allows for rapid information sharing, it also makes it easy for unverified claims to spread unchecked. In this case, the swift intervention by Pete Edochie’s family and their engagement with the DSS shows a proactive approach to tackling online falsehoods.

Legal experts note that the dissemination of false information, especially concerning matters as serious as someone’s death, can be considered a criminal offense under Nigerian law.

The involvement of the DSS indicates the seriousness with which the authorities view such incidents, ensuring that responsible parties are held accountable.

Pete Edochie, a legendary figure in Nollywood, remains alive and in good health, as confirmed by his family.

The actor, renowned for his decades-long career in film and television, continues to inspire both audiences and younger actors in the industry.

By taking action against the Tiktoker, the Edochie family is sending a strong message: spreading false rumors about public figures will not be tolerated, and social media users must exercise responsibility when sharing content online.
