Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has paid a moving tribute to the late mother of her best friend and colleague, Funke Akindele, as fans join the stars in celebrating her legacy. Funke recently marked the third anniversary of her mother’s passing on Instagram, sharing heartfelt reflections about a woman she described as a selfless queen.
According to Funke, her mother’s guidance, discipline, and wisdom played a pivotal role in shaping her character, instilling in her both confidence and a love for learning.
Iyabo Ojo, in turn, shared a deeply personal recollection of the late woman’s warmth and generosity.
She remembered how Funke’s mother cared for her children, Festus and Priscilla, when they were small. “I thought I’d lose them both. But she said: ‘No. Not on my watch,’” Iyabo recalled, describing her as not just a great doctor but also a powerful prayer warrior whose love and protection extended to everyone around her.
Even amid disagreements between Funke and herself, Iyabo noted that her mother never wavered in her support. “Even though Funke and I fought countless times, she never stopped calling me.
Never stopped praying for me. She’d always say: ‘Emi o da si ija iwo ati ore re o. One day, e ma settle e. Omo mi nigbogbo yin.’ (My spirit will stand between you and your enemies. One day, it’ll settle. My child, I love you all.),” Iyabo shared.
Describing her as “a mother to all,” Iyabo Ojo concluded with a poignant tribute: “A beautiful soul she was. I will always love her. Rest on, mama.”
This heartfelt exchange between two of Nollywood’s most celebrated stars highlights the enduring impact of Funke Akindele’s mother, whose love, prayers, and guidance continue to resonate beyond her immediate family, touching colleagues and friends alike.
