As the music world turns its attention to today’s Grammy Awards ceremony, it is worth revisiting the artists and records that have shaped the history of the prestigious honours over the decades.

The Grammy Awards, organised by the Recording Academy, have long stood as one of the highest recognitions in global music, celebrating excellence across genres, production, songwriting, and performance.

At the top of the all-time winners’ list is American superstar Beyoncé, who currently holds the record for the most Grammy Awards won by any artist in history.

With an incredible 35 wins, Beyoncé surpassed the long-standing record previously held by legendary conductor Sir Georg Solti, who won 31 awards.

Her dominance has also made her the most awarded female artist in Grammy history, underlining her influence across pop, R&B, dance, and even country music.

Among male artists, Quincy Jones and Chick Corea follow closely, each with 28 Grammy Awards, while Jay-Z leads the rap category with 25 wins, ahead of Kanye West and Kendrick Lamar

For groups, Irish rock band U2 holds the record, having won 22 Grammy Awards, making them the most successful group in the ceremony’s history. Santana also made history with their album Supernatural, winning nine Grammys in a single night, tied with Michael Jackson, who set the solo record in 1984 by winning eight awards.

The Grammys have also produced remarkable age-related milestones. LeAnn Rimes became the youngest individual Grammy winner at just 14 years old, while Blue Ivy Carter made history as one of the youngest credited winners at the age of nine. On the other end of the spectrum, blues musician Pinetop Perkins remains the oldest Grammy winner at 97. Former US President Jimmy Carter also made history as the oldest Grammy nominee at 100.

Other standout artists include Adele, who has won multiple General Field awards including Album, Record, and Song of the Year; Billie Eilish, the youngest to win Album of the Year; Lauryn Hill, a five-time winner in one night; and Paul Simon, who is among the few to win Album, Record, and Song of the Year in a single ceremony.

As anticipation builds ahead of this year’s ceremony, these historic records highlight not just commercial success, but artistic impact, longevity, and innovation, setting the stage for new names to possibly write their own chapters in Grammy history tonight.
