Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has parted ways with South African outfit Chippa United, bringing an end to his four-year stay at the club.

The club confirmed the development on Thursday, explaining that the Nigerian international personally requested to leave despite signing a contract extension in 2024 that was meant to keep him at the club for three more years.

“Chippa United Football Club confirms that Stanley Nwabali has formally submitted a request to depart club. After careful consideration, the club has agreed to grant his release,” the club said in a statement.

Chippa United also acknowledged Nwabali’s impact and professionalism throughout his time with the team.

“We would like to sincerely thank Stanley Nwabali for the years of service, commitment, and professionalism he has shown during his time at Chippa United Football Club. His contribution to the club will always be appreciated,” the statement added.

Nwabali later reacted to the announcement via Instagram, where he shared a farewell video and an emotional message addressed to his teammates, coaches, supporters, and the club’s hierarchy.

“It was more than a family❤️. To my lovely teammates, dear coaches, amazing fans and best chairman in the world. As I stand here to say farewell, but more than a goodbye, I want to say thank you,” he wrote.

Reflecting on his journey, the goalkeeper said the experiences, victories, and challenges he encountered at the club would remain with him long after his exit.

“The memories we’ve shared, the hard fought victories, the setbacks we turned into lessons, the laughs and the tears are moments I will carry with me forever,” he said.

Nwabali added that although he would no longer wear the club’s colours, the lessons and relationships built at Chippa United would stay with him permanently.

“I leave with a heart full of gratitude and a lifetime of cherished memories… even though I may not wear the shirt anymore, a part of me will always remain with this club.”

The 29-year-old joined Chippa United from Katsina United in the Nigeria Professional Football League in 2022 and made approximately 70 appearances during his time in South Africa.
