The UK–Nigeria action thriller Son of the Soil is set to make its highly anticipated U.S. premiere at the 34th Annual Pan-African Film Festival (PAFF) in Los Angeles, marking another major milestone in the film’s impressive international journey.

Directed by Chee Keong Cheung and headlined by acclaimed actor Razaaq Adoti, Son of the Soil has emerged as one of the most ambitious African action films in recent years.

The PAFF screening not only introduces the film to American audiences for the first time but also places it on one of the most influential global platforms dedicated to Black and African cinema.

The film has enjoyed a strong run across major festivals and theatrical circuits prior to its U.S. debut. It swept top honours at the Black Star International Film Festival in Ghana, winning Best Director, Best Feature and Best International Showcase.

It also claimed the Audience Choice Award at the African International Film Festival (AFRIFF) and earned multiple recognitions at the Best of Nollywood Awards, including Best Child Actress and Most Promising Actor, alongside five additional nominations.

The project has also been showcased during Entertainment Week Africa, further cementing its growing international reputation.

Produced by Action Xtreme and Sovereign Films in association with Boxonia Blueprint, and distributed in Africa and the UK by Nile Entertainment and Sovereign Films, Son of the Soil has been widely praised for blending commercial appeal with authentic African storytelling.

Industry observers have described it as a benchmark for globally minded African action cinema.

Set in Nigeria, the film follows Zion Ladejo, a former Nigerian Special Operations paratrooper who returns home following the tragic death of his sister.

His search for answers quickly escalates into a brutal confrontation with the city’s criminal underworld. With its tightly choreographed action sequences and emotionally driven narrative, the film balances high-impact thrills with personal loss and moral reckoning. Nollywire has previously described the project as “Nollywood’s most ambitious action film yet.”

Beyond Adoti’s standout performance, the film boasts a strong ensemble cast including Patience Ozokwor, Ireti Doyle, Taye Arimoro, Sunshine Rosman, Damilola Ogunsi, Philip Asaya, Ijelu Folajimi, Emeka Golden, and Sharon Rotimi, further strengthening its appeal across diverse audiences.

Speaking on the PAFF selection, director Chee Keong Cheung described the U.S. premiere as a defining moment for the film, noting that while the story is deeply rooted in Nigeria, its themes resonate globally.

Moses Babatope, founder of Nile Media Entertainment Group, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the film as an example of African cinema’s growing global competitiveness when vision and production discipline align.

Founded in 1992 by Danny Glover and fellow cultural advocates, the Pan-African Film Festival has become one of the most respected platforms for African and diaspora filmmakers.

With alumni such as Ava DuVernay, Ryan Coogler, Barry Jenkins and Steve McQueen, PAFF remains a vital gateway for films seeking broader international distribution.

As Son of the Soil continues its international screenings throughout 2026, its U.S. premiere at PAFF represents a significant step in the film’s expanding global footprint.
