Veteran Nollywood actor Saidi Balogun has shared an emotional account of how President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu intervened to support him during one of the most difficult moments of his life following a serious accident several years ago.
Speaking in an interview on OYINMOMO TV, Balogun revealed that the accident left him in a critical condition and sparked widespread concern among his colleagues, family, and well-wishers. According to him, the swift response and compassion shown by the President and his wife made a lasting impression on him, even though he later received effective treatment within Nigeria.
The actor explained that when news of his condition reached the Tinubu family, they immediately took steps to ensure he received the best possible medical attention. He said arrangements were quickly made for him to be flown abroad for specialised treatment, a gesture that deeply moved him and his loved ones.
Although circumstances later allowed him to receive quality care locally, Balogun said the readiness of the President and First Lady to intervene so decisively demonstrated genuine concern for his wellbeing.
He noted that their actions went beyond mere formality, describing them as heartfelt and compassionate, especially given the gravity of his situation at the time.
Recalling a private conversation with the First Lady, Balogun said he was curious about the motivation behind her extraordinary support and decided to ask her directly.
“She said, ‘You are a star of God, and they must not let your light dim,’” he recounted.
According to the actor, those words struck a deep chord with him and reshaped his outlook on life. He said the statement reminded him of the responsibility that comes with visibility and influence, and the importance of using one’s platform for good.
Balogun further explained that the First Lady’s words taught him a powerful lesson about compassion, kindness, and human connection. He said he learned that supporting others, especially in their moments of vulnerability, invites divine protection and blessings in return.
Reflecting on the experience, he said, “When I had an accident, President Tinubu and his wife stepped in and asked that I be taken abroad for treatment. I was well treated in Nigeria. I asked aunty why she did it.
“She said, ‘You are a star of God, and they must not let your light dim.’ It was from her I learnt that if you take care of someone else’s child, God will take care of yours.”
The actor described the incident as a turning point in his life, noting that it deepened his appreciation for empathy and generosity. He said it also strengthened his resolve to show compassion to others, particularly those in distress, regardless of their background or status.
Balogun added that the experience taught him that true leadership and influence are demonstrated not only through authority or wealth, but through kindness, understanding, and genuine concern for others.
Since his recovery, the actor said he has tried to live by the values he learned during that period, striving to support people around him and extend help whenever possible. He noted that the memory of that intervention continues to guide his actions and decisions.
Fans and colleagues have since reacted warmly to his revelation, praising the gesture of goodwill and describing it as a reminder of the power of empathy in building stronger human connections.
Many also commended Balogun for sharing such a personal story, saying it highlights the importance of gratitude, humility, and compassion, especially in moments of crisis.
The actor concluded by expressing deep appreciation to the President and First Lady, stating that their kindness remains one of the most profound experiences of his life and a lesson he intends to carry forward.
