Nigerian influencer Abike Raheem, popularly known as Papaya Ex, has come forward with allegations that she was physically assaulted by a police officer during a late-night stop in the Ajah area of Lagos State.

In a highly emotional TikTok live session on Friday, Papaya Ex recounted the incident, claiming it occurred while she was returning home from a video shoot. She alleged that the officer not only attacked her but also assaulted her driver and behaved inappropriately toward her.

What began as what appeared to be a routine traffic stop, according to Papaya Ex, quickly escalated into a violent encounter. She claimed that the officer struck her with a gun, slapped her, and hit her on her buttocks and chest. Additionally, she alleged that her mobile phone was forcibly taken during the altercation.

“There is no video proof because of network issues, but you can see the injuries on my face,” she said during the live session, showing visible marks on her face.

Clips circulating online show a tense exchange between Papaya Ex and a uniformed officer. While these videos have drawn attention, the full context and authenticity of the footage have yet to be independently verified.

Papaya Ex also pointed out that harassment by law enforcement in the Ajah area has been a recurring problem. She stated that the alleged assault occurred as she was returning from a film set, underscoring her concerns about police conduct in the area.

The allegations have sparked widespread discussion on social media, with many calling for accountability and an official investigation into the claims.

As of now, the Lagos State Police Command has not released any official statement regarding the incident, leaving questions about the circumstances and the officer’s conduct unresolved.

The case highlights ongoing concerns around police-civilian interactions in Lagos and has amplified conversations on social media about safety, harassment, and the need for proper accountability mechanisms.

Papaya Ex’s claims have further drawn attention to the experiences of public figures navigating encounters with law enforcement, with followers expressing solidarity and urging authorities to ensure justice is served.

The influencer’s allegations are likely to remain a topic of discussion as social media users await the Lagos State Police Command’s response and a possible investigation into the incident.

This latest development adds to broader debates in Nigeria about policing practices, civilian rights, and the treatment of women in encounters with law enforcement.
