Watching Out of Obligation, Not Curiosity

I didn’t start Behind Her Eyes because I was excited about the story or drawn to the cast. I started it because avoiding it felt almost rebellious. The series was everywhere—short clips flooding TikTok, endless recommendations on social media, and conversations framed as though watching it was a cultural requirement. Eventually, curiosity gave way to pressure, and I hit play simply to see what everyone else seemed to love.

What I didn’t expect was to feel trapped by that decision almost immediately.

When a Series Feels Like a Chore

From the early episodes, watching Behind Her Eyes felt less like entertainment and more like endurance. The best way to describe the experience is comparing it to studying a subject you hated in secondary school. You show up, not because you care, but because you don’t want the consequences of skipping it. There was no excitement, no emotional pull—just a steady push to get through each episode.

I struggled through all six episodes without ever feeling invested. Instead of looking forward to what came next, I kept counting how much was left. The commitment felt forced, and the satisfaction never arrived.

A Narrative World That Never Clicked

One of the biggest obstacles for me was the show’s strange internal universe. The realm shared by Adele and Robert was clearly meant to be unsettling and mysterious, but it never made sense enough to feel compelling. Rather than drawing me in, it left me disconnected, as though important rules were missing or poorly explained.

Louise’s nightmares were another weak point. These scenes seemed designed to deepen the psychological tension, yet they landed as confusing rather than intriguing. I kept expecting them to evolve into something meaningful—some narrative key that would unlock the bigger picture—but they remained frustratingly hollow.

Waiting for the Moment That Never Came

I stayed with the series because I believed it would eventually reward patience. I expected that one pivotal moment when everything would suddenly align, pulling me into the story and justifying the slow build. That moment never arrived.

Even the much-talked-about plot twist failed to make an impact. Well before it unfolded, I had already decided that Adele wasn’t entirely human. Her behavior, emotional detachment, and unsettling presence consistently suggested something dark and unnatural. By the time the reveal happened, there was no surprise—only confirmation.

There was no shock, no emotional payoff, and no sense of narrative triumph.

Confused by the Praise, Respectful of the Love

What genuinely puzzled me was the overwhelming praise the series received. Many viewers described the ending as unforgettable, even brilliant. For me, it did none of that. Without emotional investment, the twist had nothing to build on, and the conclusion felt empty.

That said, it’s clear Behind Her Eyes worked extremely well for its intended audience. Art is subjective, and stories connect differently depending on the viewer. This one simply never connected with me.

Final Thoughts: Why I Won’t Rate It

Because my reaction is rooted purely in personal disengagement rather than technical failure, I’ve chosen not to rate Behind Her Eyes. Any score I assigned would be unfairly influenced by how strongly the series missed me emotionally.

Sometimes, a show can be well-loved, widely praised, and still not be for you. This was one of those cases—and that honesty feels more valuable than any number.
