Veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has sparked fresh reactions online after revealing that she once received a car as a gift despite being married.
The award-winning actress made the disclosure during an interview on Naija FM 102.7, where she also addressed conversations surrounding the role of women in Nollywood.
According to her, the narrative that women are not at the forefront of the Nigerian film industry is inaccurate. She insisted that women are, in fact, the backbone of Nollywood, not just as actresses but as producers, entrepreneurs, influencers, and professionals who balance entertainment with other thriving careers.
Omotola stressed that many women in the industry are actively building brands and businesses beyond the screen, contributing significantly to its growth and global recognition.
During the interview, the discussion shifted to admirers and the culture of gift-giving to celebrities. Omotola candidly shared that she has received several gifts from both men and women over the years. She disclosed that on one occasion, she was gifted a car, even though she was already married at the time.
“Women have admirers,” she said. “Me, who is married, I know how many people have gifted me things, women and men. They’ll just see me and say, ‘Omotola, I’m sending you this.’ They’ve gifted me a car before.”
When asked if she returned the vehicle out of respect for her marital status, the actress responded firmly, “No, why would I return the car?”
Her response quickly generated mixed reactions on social media, with some praising her honesty and confidence, while others debated the implications of accepting such expensive gifts while married.
However, Omotola made it clear that her marriage is built on trust and security. She described her husband as an extremely secure individual, noting that his confidence makes situations like that easier to navigate.
She playfully added, “Think about it, how would you marry an Omosexy if you’re not secure?” referencing her popular nickname.
Beyond the gift revelation, Omotola used the platform to reiterate her belief in women’s dominance and resilience within Nollywood. She maintained that women are not sidelined but are instead actively shaping the industry’s direction through leadership, creativity, and business acumen.
The actress, who has enjoyed decades of success in the Nigerian entertainment space, continues to command attention both for her film legacy and outspoken views. Her recent comments have once again placed her in the spotlight, reinforcing her status as one of Nollywood’s most influential voices.
Fans and observers continue to react across social media platforms, proving that Omotola remains a powerful figure in conversations about celebrity culture, marriage, and the evolving dynamics of the entertainment industry.
