Nigerian media personality Daddy Freeze has weighed in on the ongoing custody dispute between award-winning singer Davido and his first baby mama, Sophia Momodu, offering his perspective on the legal drama and the intense reactions it has sparked online.

In a video shared on his Instagram page, the outspoken broadcaster revealed that someone close to the lawyer involved in the case had contacted him to complain about the heavy backlash she has been facing following Davido’s public comments. According to Freeze, the incident has highlighted deeper concerns about the nature of courtroom strategies and the wider legal culture in Nigeria.

While stressing that he does not support harassment, intimidation, or bullying of any kind, Freeze pointed out that the situation exposes how legal battles are often fought using aggressive and emotionally charged tactics.

“I don’t support bullying, intimidation, or harassment in any form, but this situation shows a bigger problem in our legal system,” he said.

Freeze explained that lawyers frequently adopt harsh language and personal attacks in court as a strategy to gain the upper hand, adding that he personally experienced similar treatment during his own legal battles.

“I’ve been to court before, and I know how some lawyers operate. They throw personal jabs and emotional punches, just to break you down and win their case,” he stated.

The former On-Air Personality questioned the alleged use of sensitive family issues during the proceedings, particularly the reported reference to Davido’s late son. He described such moves as unnecessary and unfair, calling them “low blows” that go beyond legal argument.

“There are things you don’t bring up, especially when they involve deep emotional pain. Winning a case shouldn’t mean destroying someone emotionally,” he added.

Freeze further noted that even if someone wins in court, the judgment of the public on social media often tells a different story.

“You might win in court, but social media is the court of public opinion, and it doesn’t always follow legal rulings,” he remarked.

The custody battle recently made headlines after reports emerged that Davido lost his composure during a court session in Yaba. Lawyer Maruf Muhammed alleged via social media that the singer became visibly upset during cross-examination and caused a stir in the courtroom.

In response, Davido clarified that he never sought full custody of his daughter, Imade, but instead requested joint custody. He later announced his decision to withdraw the case, assuring his daughter that she would grow up knowing he stood up for his rights as her father.

Several public figures have since weighed in on the matter. Entrepreneur Wanneka praised Davido for fighting for his child, pointing out that many fathers show little concern about their children’s welfare.

Similarly, Davido’s aide, Israel DMW, cautioned the public against underestimating individuals who project deep religious devotion, suggesting that such people can sometimes act without regard for others’ feelings.

On the other hand, Isaac Fayose harshly criticised Sophia, describing her as one of the most toxic baby mamas anyone could encounter. He advised Davido and the Adeleke family to step back and allow Sophia to keep Imade, predicting that the child would eventually reconnect with her father when she is older.

The legal dispute dates back to 2024, when Davido filed a lawsuit seeking joint custody, accusing Sophia of denying him access to their daughter and demanding money, allegations she strongly denied. Shortly after, Sophia filed a counter-motion opposing the custody request, citing several concerns, including the tragic death of Davido’s son, as reasons she believed he was not fit to raise Imade alone.

As reactions continue to pour in, the case remains one of the most talked-about celebrity legal battles in recent times, drawing attention to the emotional and legal complexities surrounding child custody disputes in Nigeria.
