Nollywood’s 2026 slate is shaping up to be one of its most diverse and emotionally rich lineups yet. From intimate dramas to historical epics and sports-driven rivalries, the coming months promise powerful storytelling across genres. Here’s a closer look at five highly anticipated films arriving soon in cinemas.

First on the list is A Fisherwoman’s Dream, produced by Laju Iren. Known for telling emotionally layered stories, Laju Iren returns with a drama that features a strong cast including Bisola Aiyeola, Patience Ozokwor, and Deyemi Okanlawon

While plot details remain under wraps, the title alone suggests a deeply personal journey centered on hope, resilience, and ambition.

With FilmOne Entertainment attached as distributor and a March 6, 2026 release date, expectations are high for a heartfelt drama that speaks to everyday struggles and triumphs.

Another compelling title on the way is A Star In The Dark, produced by Dolly Nwaduba and directed by Akay Mason.

The story follows Kate, a woman whose seemingly perfect life unravels after a devastating tragedy shortly after her engagement.

Featuring a strong ensemble cast including Blossom Chukwujekwu, Daniel Etim Effiong, Gideon Okeke and Venita Akpofure, the April 24, 2026 release promises an emotional exploration of grief, betrayal, and rebuilding.

With its themes of love tested by tragedy, this drama is likely to resonate strongly with audiences who enjoy intense, character-driven storytelling.

Sports drama lovers should keep an eye out for The Other Side of the Bridge. Produced by Tolu ‘LordTanner’ Awobiyi and Demi Banwo, the film centers on a former teenage boxing champion who enters a high-stakes competition to save his trainer’s gym.

Along the way, he faces a troubled rival fighter, forcing both men to confront their pasts. With cast members like Ireti Doyle, Femi Branch, and Tobi Bakre, the April 17, 2026 release could deliver both adrenaline and emotional depth. It’s a story about ambition, redemption, and fighting for a second chance.

History and culture take center stage in Efunroye: The Unicorn, a major historical epic chronicling the life of Efunroye Tinubu, the influential 19th-century merchant and political figure in Lagos.

Produced by Faithia Williams alongside Duran Adeyinka, Kemi Anibaba, and Niyi Akinmolayan, and directed by Abbey Lanre, Adebayo Tijani and Tope Adebayo Salami, the film is scheduled for May 1, 2026.

Running at 160 minutes, it promises grand production design, political intrigue, and a deep dive into Yoruba history. For fans of epic storytelling rooted in Nigerian heritage, this will likely be a must-watch cinematic event.

Rounding off the lineup is Iya Mi, a Yoruba-language drama that aims to honor motherhood, sacrifice, and generational love.

Though details remain limited, the film is already generating anticipation as one of the most heartfelt local stories of early 2026. With its focus on family bonds and emotional legacy, “Iya Mi” could strike a powerful chord with audiences who appreciate stories grounded in culture and tradition.

Together, these upcoming films reflect Nollywood’s growing range from intimate personal dramas to large-scale historical spectacles.

Whether you’re drawn to romance, rivalry, heritage, or emotional family narratives, the months ahead promise a cinematic experience worth marking on your calendar.
