A recent video featuring popular content creator James Brown inside a Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) parish has ignited widespread debate and criticism online.
In the video, James Brown, known for his cross-dressing persona, is seen receiving prayers while dressed in a female sutana, a traditional CCC attire.
The clip quickly circulated on social media, with many viewers mistakenly believing it depicted a spiritual deliverance session. However, Celestial Reality Check (CRC) clarified the situation on its official Facebook page.
According to CRC, James Brown was at the church to receive prayers for success and blessings, not deliverance.
The statement reads:
“JAMES BROWN DELIVERANCE February 1st, 2026. Prophet Eze Timothy, who oversees CCC Orisun Iye Parish, Alpha and Omega, at Alhaji Opeloyeru Street, off Senukoro Aiyetoro, Ado-Odo/Ota LGA, Ogun State, is aware of James Brown’s male identity and his preference for cross-dressing. The video posted online was a genuine prayer session, not a staged performance.
Initially labeled as a deliverance by some Instagram blogs, CRC has since clarified that it was a prayer for success and blessings. The Shepherd appears to focus on James Brown’s success rather than deliverance. The controversy arises from his attire during the session and its circulation online.
Authorities, including the CCC Task-Force Office in Ogun State, the Prophet and Prophetess Council, and the Shepherd’s Disciplinary Committee, may need to provide guidance to prevent abnormal practices from becoming normalized.”
Despite the clarification, some CCC pastors expressed displeasure. Cleric Segun Glorious condemned the act, highlighting the broader implications:
"My concern is that this act of shame is taking place in a church building that is yet to be completed. This individual should not exploit the church for content while the building remains unfinished. While leadership struggles continue within the church, the global perception of CCC is being negatively affected. For non-members, I want to emphasize that this content does not align with our doctrinal teachings.”
Similarly, cleric Michael Abatanwa criticized the video on social media, stating:
“As a shepherd and member of CCC, I believe James Brown’s actions are inappropriate, and the Shepherd must be questioned by church authorities. Such behavior is not permitted in CCC anywhere in the world.”
The video has stirred a flood of reactions online, with users questioning the appropriateness of James Brown’s actions in a religious setting:
@Lanre Sammy: “A man put on female sutana….woli Bali won tun pase asekini……. Stomach calling Prophets.”
@Aigbe Osariemen Precious: “This act is very bad on the image of the church, na even 4 corner they wear am.”
@Abigail Adewumi: “What did I just watch father Lord. The Woli sef need deliverance oo. Na four corner he even wear…..Kai with her rumple dress.”
@Olori Sarah: “Deliverance indeed , why is he wearing woman Garmet.”
@Abigail Adewumi: “You sure say God called you abi na ur belle called you.”
The incident highlights a tension between traditional church values and the growing presence of online content creators, raising questions about what is deemed acceptable in sacred spaces.
