Nollywood actor Bolanle Ninalowo has found himself at the centre of intense online criticism following his recent appointment linked to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
The actor, popularly known as Makanaki, took to his Instagram page to announce that he had been appointed as the Coordinator of the Relax Tinubu Is Fixing Nigeria (RTIFN) association in Atlanta, United States.
Sharing the news with his followers, Ninalowo expressed pride and gratitude over the role, describing it as an honour to serve.
In his post, he wrote, “Honoured to serve as Coordinator! Atlanta/USA for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu RTIFN.”
However, the announcement did not sit well with a large section of his fanbase and social media users, many of whom reacted with disappointment and anger.
Shortly after the post went live, Ninalowo’s comment section was flooded with criticisms questioning his support for the current government, especially given Nigeria’s ongoing economic challenges.
Several commenters pointed out that the actor’s immediate family resides abroad, arguing that his endorsement of the administration appeared hypocritical.
One user wrote, “Tinubu is fixing Nigeria, meanwhile all your kids are abroad. God will judge you.” Another added, “Jokes on you. Tinubu is fixing Nigeria from someone who has his kids and family outside the country.”
Others challenged Ninalowo to bring his family back to Nigeria if he truly believed in the government’s agenda. “Please bring back your family to Nigeria since your mandate is fixing Nigeria,” a commenter wrote, while another bluntly asked, “Really? What progress?”
Some reactions were even harsher, with accusations that the actor had been influenced by money or personal benefit. A user commented, “Money don buy this one too,” while another wrote, “I used to respect you a lot, but now I see the type of person you are.”
Despite the backlash, Ninalowo has not publicly responded to the criticisms. Instead, past posts from the actor suggest that he remains focused on personal growth and self-improvement.
While joining the trending “2016 is the new 2026” conversation earlier, the father of two stated that he does not dwell on the past, noting that his only goal is to evolve from Bolanle to Makanaki.
In a separate Instagram post, the actor spoke about avoiding competition or envy among colleagues, stressing that his focus is on outdoing his previous self rather than measuring success against others. He expressed gratitude to God and vowed to keep pushing forward until he achieves his personal goals.
Last year, Ninalowo also celebrated a personal milestone on social media, revealing that he had never experienced such massive engagement on a post in under 24 hours. Describing himself as a “star man,” he proudly noted that he is blessed with a star daughter and a star son.
As reactions continue to trail his appointment, the controversy highlights the growing scrutiny celebrities face when aligning publicly with political figures, especially at a time when many Nigerians are demanding accountability and tangible progress.
