Nigerian singer and songwriter Adekunle Gold has released the official music video for his hit track Only God Can Save Me, featuring Afrobeats heavyweight Davido. The visual, which dropped recently, adds a colourful and entertaining dimension to the already popular song.
The track is the tenth song on Fuji, Adekunle Gold’s newly released sixth studio album. Directed by Perliks, the video adopts a playful storyline inspired by a lively dating show, offering fans a refreshing and humorous viewing experience.
Set within a vibrant studio environment, the fictional show is hosted by actor Chimezie Imo and follows several female contestants as they compete in a fun-filled challenge. Their goal is to win a romantic date with either Adekunle Gold or Davido. The creative concept brings energy, comedy, and excitement to the visuals, complementing the upbeat tempo and infectious rhythm of the song.
Throughout the video, both artistes deliver their catchy and introspective lyrics, blending humour with reflection as they sing: “Only God can save me/ How do I look away when this fine girls want me/ Yeah yeah/ Life is for living/ Something must kill a man Baba ṣa maa ṣọ mi/ Baba ṣa maa ṣọ mi/ Gba’bi ma gba’bẹ, gba’bẹ ma gba’bi/ You’re such a beautiful liar/ You get lover o tun wa plan B/ This equation no balance/ Sheba sheba.”
Adekunle Gold first rose to prominence in 2015 with his breakout single Sade, a highlife-inspired reinterpretation of One Direction’s Story of My Life. Following his stint with YBNL Nation, he established his independent label, Afro Urban Records, and later secured a strategic partnership with Def Jam Recordings. Over the years, he has built a solid solo career marked by artistic versatility and consistent chart success.
Davido, on the other hand, remains one of Africa’s most influential and celebrated music stars. Widely regarded as part of the Afrobeats “Big 3,” the singer has maintained global relevance through multiple hit records, international collaborations, and sold-out tours, further cementing his place in contemporary music history.
The video also shines a spotlight on host Chimezie Imo, a model and actor known for his compelling performances in Nimbe, Kasala, Breath of Life, and the MTV Shuga Naija series. His lively hosting adds charm and structure to the storyline, enhancing the overall viewing experience.
