Popular socialite and businessman Cubana Chief Priest has urged people from the South-East region to politically align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, arguing that such support could play a crucial role in securing the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Chief Priest made the call while reacting to a viral video featuring the Igwe of Ezema Olo, Dr. Lawrence Agubuzo, who recently visited Abuja to personally appeal to President Tinubu over Kanu’s continued detention. In the footage, the traditional ruler passionately asked the President to “hear our cry” and intervene in the matter.
Sharing the video on his social media platform, Cubana Chief Priest commended the monarch for his initiative, describing it as a significant step toward resolving the long-standing issue. He praised the Igwe for engaging directly with the federal authorities, noting that such an approach was necessary to ensure the message reached the right quarters.
“The message is very clear. God bless Your Royal Highness for partaking in Nigeria’s future. If His Highness had not gone to Abuja, how would Asiwaju have received this message?” he wrote.
The celebrity barman went further to stress the importance of political cooperation, warning against confrontation with the federal government. According to him, working alongside the current administration rather than opposing it would yield more beneficial outcomes for the South-East.
“We cannot fight the government. If Asiwaju frees MNK, the Igwe has already paved the way. Let’s get along with Nigeria. Tinubu won the last election without the South-East,” he stated.
Chief Priest also pointed out that President Tinubu remains a dominant political force ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging the region to strategically position itself by supporting the ruling party. He argued that such loyalty could translate into political goodwill, development, and possible concessions, including Kanu’s freedom.
“He will win again, so why not give him our votes so he can do what we ask in return? Hopefully, he will hand over power to an Igbo man,” he added.
Highlighting Tinubu’s political machinery, Chief Priest described the President as the most strategically positioned politician in the country, capable of mobilising widespread support across regions. He advised the South-East to carefully consider its political choices and avoid wasting votes on less viable options.
“He has the best political structure in the country to win elections. The Igbo’s best stake is on Asiwaju. Let’s think it through and not waste our votes,” he said.
His comments have since sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians debating the role of political alliances in resolving sensitive national issues, particularly the fate of Nnamdi Kanu, whose detention remains a major concern among supporters in the South-East and beyond.
