Popular Nollywood actress and filmmaker Bimbo Ademoye has publicly called out a Lagos-based sound producer, Emmanuel Davies, popularly associated with “Lagos sounds,” over an alleged copyright infringement that has reportedly affected the monetisation of her movie.

The controversy erupted after Bimbo Ademoye accused Emmanuel Davies of unlawfully uploading a soundtrack titled “Ogochimere,” a song she claims was specially produced for her movie project.

According to the actress, the song was allegedly released across multiple digital streaming platforms, including Spotify, under Emmanuel Davies’ name without her consent or proper clearance.

Bimbo Ademoye expressed deep frustration over the situation, stating that the unauthorised upload triggered copyright claims and demonetisation on platforms where her movie was hosted. She described the development as heartbreaking, especially considering the time, effort, and resources invested in producing the film.

She stated;

"The song ‘Ogochimere’ was specially made for my movie. You uploaded it on all platforms, including Spotify, claiming it as yours, and caused demonetisation of the movie I worked so hard for. If I put a ban on your head and they find you, you won’t like it. I’m giving you just one hour to take down that sound and restore my monetization—just one hour."

In her call-out, the actress stressed that the soundtrack was not a random commercial release but a custom-made sound meant exclusively for her movie. She alleged that Emmanuel Davies’ actions created the false impression that he solely owned the song, thereby enabling him to claim copyright over content that was never meant to be distributed independently.

The Nollywood star also highlighted a broader issue within the creative industry—lack of respect for intellectual property and collaboration agreements. She warned that such practices could discourage filmmakers and creatives from investing in original productions if their work can be easily hijacked and monetised by others.

Fans and industry colleagues have since flooded social media with mixed reactions. While many expressed support for Bimbo Ademoye and called for accountability, others urged both parties to resolve the dispute legally and transparently.

As of now, Emmanuel Davies has not publicly responded to the allegations. The situation continues to spark conversations around copyright protection, music ownership, and fair compensation in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.

For many observers, this unfolding drama serves as a reminder that creative partnerships must be backed by clear contracts and ethical practices to prevent disputes that could damage careers and livelihoods.
