Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, the Onitsha-based pastor popularly known as Odumeje, has proclaimed 2026 as a year of “kabush kabash,” describing it as a period marked by intense spiritual warfare and divine confrontation.

The controversial cleric made the declaration while addressing members of his congregation during the church’s crossover service, where he delivered a dramatic message filled with symbolic gestures, prophetic language, and bold spiritual claims. According to Odumeje, the coming year will not be ordinary, but one characterised by battles that require supernatural intervention.

“2026 is a year of kabush kabash,” Odumeje proclaimed before the congregation, reinforcing the phrase that has become strongly associated with his ministry and public identity.

The expression “kabush kabash,” widely popularised by Odumeje, is a slang or pidgin phrase that does not have a direct, single-word English translation. Its meaning is largely contextual and is often linked to moments of intense spiritual confrontation. The phrase is frequently used by the cleric while speaking in tongues or engaging in what he describes as spiritual combat.

Speaking in tongues, also known as glossolalia, refers to the practice of producing speech-like sounds or languages unknown to the speaker, which many Christians regard as a spiritual gift. Odumeje often blends this practice with theatrical expressions that have become his trademark.

During the declaration, the pastor performed a sequence of dramatic hand movements, forming an “X” shape with his arms while raising his index and middle fingers at the same time. This gesture, often repeated in his services, has become a recognizable symbol of his dramatic preaching style and spiritual performance.

Beyond symbolism, Odumeje warned that the year ahead would involve numerous spiritual battles, but assured his followers that he was fully prepared to confront them. He claimed to have already secured divine backing to fight on behalf of his congregation.

“I know that many will come. I am ready for the battle. Lift up your hands of destiny. The battle is not yours. I am ready to fight your war. I and my heavenly father. From today, prepare the burials of your enemies one by one. I am a warlord. I have never lost a fight. I can never lose a battle,” he declared.

His statements, delivered with confidence and intensity, drew loud reactions from worshippers, many of whom echoed his words and gestures during the service. The declaration has since circulated widely on social media, drawing both fascination and criticism from the public.

Odumeje has long remained a controversial figure within Nigeria’s religious space, known for his unconventional preaching methods, dramatic displays, and extraordinary claims of supernatural power. Over the years, his sermons and public appearances have frequently gone viral, often sparking debate about the boundaries between faith, performance, and spirituality.

In 2024, the cleric attracted widespread attention after responding to critics who accused him of possessing fake spiritual powers. At the time, he dismissed the allegations by boldly referring to himself as “a liquid metal,” a statement that further fueled public discussions and memes across social media platforms.

Beyond his religious activities, Odumeje has also ventured into politics. Last year, he announced his intention to contest for Nigeria’s presidency, a declaration that added another layer to his already polarising public image.

As 2026 approaches, his “kabush kabash” proclamation has once again placed him at the centre of national conversation, with supporters interpreting the message as a prophetic call to spiritual readiness, while critics continue to question his rhetoric and methods. Regardless of opinion, Odumeje remains one of the most talked-about clerics in the country, consistently commanding attention through his dramatic declarations and unconventional approach to ministry.
