The Nollywood industry has laid one of its own to rest as late actress, filmmaker and creative powerhouse, Allwell Ademola, was buried in Lagos amid tears, prayers and heartfelt tributes from family, friends and colleagues.

The 49-year-old actress passed away suddenly after reportedly suffering a heart attack at her residence. She was said to have been rushed to a hospital for emergency treatment, but all efforts to revive her proved unsuccessful. News of her death sent shockwaves through the Nigerian film industry, with many describing her passing as both painful and untimely.

Activities marking her final journey began on Thursday with a solemn Service of Songs held at the Blueroof Auditorium, Lagos State Television, Ikeja. The atmosphere was heavy with grief as members of the Nollywood community gathered to honour a woman many described as selfless, passionate and deeply committed to her craft.

Colleagues, friends and loved ones took turns sharing emotional tributes, recalling her generosity, professionalism and unwavering support for younger creatives in the industry. The service was punctuated by prayers, hymns and moments of reflection, as attendees struggled to come to terms with the sudden loss.

After the indoor programme, a candlelight procession followed, creating a moving public display of love and remembrance. Holding lit candles, mourners walked in quiet solidarity, celebrating a life that had touched many both on and off the screen. Videos from the procession later surfaced online, capturing the emotional intensity of the night as colleagues leaned on one another for comfort.

The burial ceremony took place on Friday at the Atan Cemetery in Yaba, Lagos. The interment was conducted in a solemn atmosphere, with clergymen leading prayers and scripture readings at the graveside. Family members and close associates offered final tributes before committing her body to the earth.

In one of the most touching moments, relatives and friends stepped forward to sprinkle sand on her coffin, a symbolic gesture marking their final goodbye. Tears flowed freely as those closest to her struggled to hold back emotions, underscoring the deep void her death has left behind.

Several notable figures from the Nollywood industry were present to pay their last respects. Among them were Toyin Abraham, Afeez Owo, Saidi Balogun, Yetunde Wunmi and Adedoyin Kukoyi, alongside many other actors, producers and filmmakers who had worked closely with the late actress over the years.

Allwell Ademola was widely admired for her versatility and creative depth. Beyond acting, she distinguished herself as a writer and director, contributing significantly to the evolution of Nollywood storytelling. Although she began acting at a young age, her professional breakthrough came in 2008, after which her career steadily flourished.

She went on to feature in several acclaimed productions, including Ile Wa, Third Eye, Murder At The Bar and Mimi’s Voice. Her performances were often praised for their emotional authenticity and strong screen presence.

As tributes continue to pour in across social media, many in the industry have described Allwell Ademola as a rare gem whose legacy will endure through her work, mentorship and the countless lives she touched.
