Afrobeat singer and activist, Seun Kuti, has once again stirred reactions on social media after making a bold statement about his late father, legendary musician Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, while responding to comparisons involving popular Nigerian singer, Wizkid.

Seun Kuti, who has never shied away from defending his father’s legacy, claimed that Fela is still financially blessing him nearly three decades after his death.

to the outspoken artist, he recently received $120,000, which he described as proof that his father’s impact remains unmatched long after his passing.

Speaking in a video that has since gone viral, Seun mocked members of Wizkid’s fan base, popularly known as Wizkid FC, for constantly drawing comparisons between the Grammy-winning singer and Fela.

He questioned how many of those making such comparisons could boast of fathers whose influence still generates income years after their death.

“My father is still blessing me from the grave 29 years later,” Seun said. “How many of your fathers can do that from the grave? None, because your fathers are not accomplished.”

Seun further stressed that Fela’s legacy goes beyond music fame, explaining that the late Afrobeat pioneer’s influence was built on activism, cultural revolution, and global recognition that transcended generations.

He argued that this is why, in his opinion, any comparison between Wizkid and Fela is fundamentally flawed.

While acknowledging Wizkid’s success in the global music space, Seun accused the singer and his close associate, DJ Tunez, of benefiting from the ongoing comparisons without publicly discouraging what he described as disrespect towards Fela’s legacy.

“Wizkid and DJ Tunez are enjoying the clout, which is why they won’t come out to say, ‘Stop disrespecting Fela in my name,’” he stated.

The remarks have since sparked heated debates online, with fans divided over Seun’s comments. While some social media users applauded him for standing firm in defense of his father’s achievements, others accused him of unnecessarily attacking Wizkid and his supporters.

This is not the first time Seun Kuti has addressed comparisons between contemporary Nigerian artists and his father. Over the years, he has consistently maintained that Fela occupies a unique space in African music history that cannot be replicated or rivaled.

Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, who passed away in 1997, remains one of Africa’s most influential musicians and political activists. His music, ideology, and fearless opposition to oppression continue to inspire artists and activists across the world.

As conversations around legacy, fame, and influence continue, Seun Kuti’s latest statement has once again reignited discussions about how Nigeria’s musical icons should be remembered and respected.
