Popular Nigerian actor Kunle Remi has stirred conversations online after reacting to the recent visit of American streamer and internet personality, IShowSpeed, to Nigeria.
The Nollywood star shared his thoughts while comparing Speed’s Lagos experience to other African countries the streamer has visited as part of his ongoing Africa tour, ranking Nigeria unfavourably on his personal list.
IShowSpeed, who has been touring several African countries in recent weeks, arrived in Nigeria last week, drawing massive attention from fans and content creators.
His visit generated excitement online, with clips from his Lagos stay circulating widely across social media platforms. However, Kunle Remi’s reaction to the viral moments from Speed’s Nigerian experience took many by surprise.
Taking to his Instagram story, Kunle Remi openly expressed disappointment, stating that Nigeria ranked as the “worst” country IShowSpeed has visited so far in Africa.
According to the actor, the content from Speed’s Lagos trip reflected a worrying loss of cultural identity, particularly in Lagos, which is widely regarded as Nigeria’s cultural and entertainment capital.
Kunle Remi lamented that the state’s rich heritage appeared to have been overshadowed by what he described as excessive clubbing culture, fake drinks, and begging.
He suggested that Lagos, once known for its vibrant traditions, creativity, and authenticity, has gradually lost its cultural essence.
Sharing his thoughts, the actor wrote, “After watching IShowSpeed’s journey so far, Nigeria is the worst on my own list. We just really stripped Lagos naked. No be say anything dey under the clothes before sha.” His statement immediately sparked debates online, with many Nigerians agreeing with his concerns, while others accused him of being overly critical.
He further added, “Seems like we’ve lost the essence of culture. Our truth! All we have is fake drinks, club & beggy beggy skills.” The blunt message resonated with many social media users who believe Lagos is gradually becoming more commercialised at the expense of its cultural values.
Kunle Remi’s comments have since generated mixed reactions, with some Nigerians calling for introspection and cultural reawakening, while others defended Lagos, arguing that the city still offers rich cultural experiences that may not always be highlighted during high-profile celebrity visits.
Meanwhile, IShowSpeed’s Africa tour continues to attract attention, with fans across the continent eager to showcase the best of their countries to the global audience he commands.
His visit to Nigeria, despite the criticism, has once again placed the country in international conversations, reinforcing its influence in global pop culture.
As discussions continue online, Kunle Remi’s remarks have reignited conversations about how Nigeria, especially Lagos, presents itself to the world and whether enough is being done to preserve and promote its cultural identity amid rapid urbanisation and entertainment-driven narratives.
