Reality TV personality Josephine Ijioma Otabor, widely known as Phyna, has debunked renewed claims suggesting that she is yet to receive the ₦100 million grand prize for winning the 2022 Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) reality show.
Phyna, who emerged winner of the seventh season of BBNaija, had previously raised concerns in 2023 about not receiving some components of her prizes. At the time, she openly called out the show’s organisers, prompting responses from both her management team and BBNaija officials. After the back-and-forth, the matter gradually disappeared from public discourse, leading many fans to assume it had been amicably resolved.
The issue, however, recently resurfaced following the circulation of a viral video online. In the clip, Phyna was allegedly heard saying that she had not been paid her prize money, sparking fresh debates across social media platforms and entertainment blogs.
Reacting to the controversy during a recent Twitch livestream, the BBNaija star clarified that the viral video was doctored and taken out of context. According to her, her comments were deliberately edited to portray a narrative she never intended.
“They keep cutting my video. I never said I have not received my 100 million naira. I was only talking to people who asked me if the 100 million naira has finished,” she said.
Phyna further revealed that the misleading clip almost escalated into a legal dispute between her and the organisers of Big Brother Naija. She explained that the organisers were displeased with the claims being attributed to her and had to be reassured after she clarified what truly transpired.
She disclosed that she explained to the BBNaija organisers that the video had been maliciously edited and encouraged them to watch the full Twitch livestream to understand the original context of her statements.
The Edo State-born reality star also used the opportunity to issue a stern warning to bloggers and content creators. She cautioned against manipulating her videos or statements for clicks and engagement, noting that such actions could have serious consequences.
Phyna stressed that she would not hesitate to pursue legal action against anyone whose actions could put her at odds with brands, partners, or organisations she has worked with.
Her clarification has since calmed tensions among fans, while also reigniting conversations about misinformation, content manipulation, and responsible blogging within Nigeria’s entertainment space.
