Former United States president Donald Trump has ruled out granting a presidential pardon to hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, making it clear that the music executive is not under consideration for clemency.

Trump’s position comes amid reports that Combs had written to him seeking a pardon following his conviction and imprisonment.

The rapper and businessman is currently serving a four-year prison sentence after being found guilty on prostitution-related charges.

According to reports, Combs was convicted in July last year on two counts of transporting individuals across state lines for prostitution.

However, he was acquitted of more serious charges, including sex trafficking and racketeering. Despite avoiding the most severe allegations, the convictions still resulted in a custodial sentence.

In an interview with The New York Times published on Thursday, Trump addressed the issue directly, stating that he has no intention of granting Combs a pardon. He further disclosed that he is not planning to issue clemency to several other high-profile figures whose cases have attracted public attention.

Among those Trump mentioned were Venezuela’s former president Nicolas Maduro, disgraced cryptocurrency entrepreneur Sam Bankman-Fried, and former Democratic senator Robert Menendez.

Trump’s comments suggest a firm stance against extending pardons to a broad range of controversial political and business figures.

When asked about Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer convicted of murdering George Floyd, Trump said the matter had not been brought to him and that he had not been asked to consider a pardon in that case.

Trump’s remarks have reignited discussions about his approach to presidential pardons, which has often been described as selective. During his time in office, he issued a number of high-profile clemency decisions that drew both praise and criticism.

Notably, Trump previously granted pardons to more than 1,500 individuals connected to the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol. He also issued clemency to former Honduran president Juan Orlando Hernández, who had been serving a 45-year prison sentence for drug trafficking offences.

Political analysts say Trump’s latest comments reinforce the perception that his pardon decisions tend to favor loyalists, allies, and politically connected individuals, while excluding prominent celebrities and figures whose cases do not align with his political interests.

For Sean “Diddy” Combs, Trump’s rejection effectively closes the door on any immediate hope of presidential clemency, leaving the music executive to continue serving his sentence under the current legal framework.

The development adds another layer to the ongoing public scrutiny surrounding Combs’ legal troubles and underscores the limited scope of Trump’s willingness to intervene in high-profile criminal cases.
