Afrobeats heavyweight Davido has confirmed that he and American R&B superstar Chris Brown are working on a full collaborative project, which is expected to be released next year. The singer shared the update during a recent interview with Billboard Arabia, offering rare insight into the creative process behind his long-standing international partnerships.
Speaking on how he navigates collaborations beyond Africa, Davido made it clear that his approach is driven by authenticity rather than strategy. According to him, music flows best when it is organic and unforced.
“I just really make music. Whoever comes around, comes around and we make music if we are chilling, if we are in the studio,” Davido said.
The Grammy-nominated artist explained that he deliberately avoids calculated alliances, especially when dealing with Western acts, choosing instead to let relationships develop naturally through shared creative moments.
“And it happens naturally. I love making music with people naturally. I do not like forcing things, running away from collaborations with the Western world,” he added.
While Davido has previously teased future collaborations, this is the first time he has openly confirmed that a structured project with Chris Brown is in the works. The singer disclosed that the joint effort is already underway and slated for release next year.
“I have a project with Chris Brown by the grace of God and will come out this… next year,” he said.
Beyond his partnership with the American R&B star, Davido also spoke about his broader vision for music as a borderless art form. He stressed that his collaborations are not limited to Africa and the Western music market, highlighting a recent partnership with an Indian artiste as proof of his global outlook.
“I just did a collaboration with Bhaskar from India. I believe music is a universal language,” Davido said.
The confirmation of a joint project comes as little surprise to fans, given the strong creative bond Davido and Chris Brown have built over the years. Their working relationship dates back to 2019, when they released Blow My Mind, a chart-topping single that helped further bridge Afrobeats and mainstream American pop.
Later that same year, Chris Brown returned the favour by featuring Davido on his track Lower Body, reinforcing their musical synergy. Their collaboration extended into songwriting as well, with Davido co-writing Under the Influence alongside Chris Brown and Tiffany Mckie. The song, produced by Nigerian producer KDDO, later became one of Brown’s biggest global records after gaining renewed traction on social media.
In 2020, the duo teamed up again on Shopping Spree, a collaboration that also featured rapper Young Thug. The song showcased their ability to seamlessly blend Afrobeats, R&B, and hip-hop into a global sound. Two years later, in 2022, Davido appeared on Chris Brown’s Sensational, a track that further cemented their cross-continental partnership.
Most recently, both artistes collaborated again in 2024 on Hmmm, continuing a run of joint releases that has spanned more than five years. Each collaboration has been met with strong fan reception, fueling speculation that a larger body of work was inevitable.
Davido’s announcement has already sparked excitement across social media, with fans anticipating what a full-length collaborative project between the two stars could deliver. Given their proven chemistry and shared history of successful records, expectations are high.
While Davido did not disclose details about the project’s title, sound, or tracklist, his comments suggest that the work is being shaped organically, in line with his creative philosophy. For fans of both artistes, the confirmation signals that their musical partnership is evolving into something far more ambitious than standalone singles.
As Afrobeats continues to gain global dominance, a joint Davido–Chris Brown project could mark another major moment in the genre’s international expansion when it arrives next year.
