Popular Nigerian social media activist VeryDarkMan has sparked conversations online after publicly advising Super Eagles and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen to exercise better emotional control on the football pitch.
In a video currently circulating on social media and shared by GistLover, VeryDarkMan addressed the football star in what many have described as a calm and brotherly manner. While praising Osimhen’s talent, strength, and passion for the game, the activist warned that excessive anger during matches could negatively impact his performance and overall career growth.
According to VeryDarkMan, Osimhen’s emotional reactions — especially when fouled, provoked by opponents, or frustrated by refereeing decisions — often become distractions rather than advantages. He stressed that football at the highest level requires not just physical strength and skill, but also mental discipline.
“Osimhen, you are very talented and hardworking, but you need to control your emotions on the pitch,” VeryDarkMan said.
He further explained that when a player allows anger to take over, it affects decision-making, positioning, and focus, sometimes leading to unnecessary fouls, bookings, or even red cards.
“Once anger enters, your game changes. Instead of focusing on scoring goals, you start reacting to provocation,” he added.
VeryDarkMan noted that Osimhen is often targeted by defenders because of his threat in front of goal, but reacting emotionally only plays into the hands of opponents. He urged the Napoli forward to channel his aggression into performance rather than confrontation.
The activist also reminded Osimhen that as one of Nigeria’s biggest football exports and a key figure in the Super Eagles squad, millions of young Nigerians look up to him.
“You are a role model. Stay calm, stay focused, and let your goals do the talking,” he concluded.
The video has since generated mixed reactions online, with some fans agreeing with the message, while others defended Osimhen’s fiery passion as part of his playing style.
Despite differing opinions, many believe the advice comes from a place of concern and admiration for the footballer’s success and long-term legacy.
