The organisers of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) have officially opened the submission window for the 12th edition of the prestigious awards, scheduled to hold in May 2026.
Entries opened on January 11 and will close on February 15, 2026, giving filmmakers and content creators across the continent a little over a month to submit their works for consideration.
This year’s edition marks another milestone for the AMVCAs, with Don Julio unveiled as the headline sponsor.
According to the organisers, the partnership reflects the awards’ continued evolution into a premium cultural platform that celebrates African creativity, storytelling, and craftsmanship across multiple formats.
The 12th AMVCA will recognise outstanding achievements in film, television, and digital content produced across Africa. A total of 32 award categories have been announced for this edition. Out of these, 18 categories will be decided by a jury, while 11 categories will be determined through audience voting.
The awards will also retain their major honorary recognitions, including the Trailblazer Award and two Special Recognition Awards dedicated to individuals who have made significant lifetime contributions to the African creative industry.
In a move aimed at expanding representation, the organisers announced the introduction of two new award categories: Best Indigenous Language North Africa and Best Indigenous Language Central Africa.
These additions further broaden the AMVCA’s inclusivity, as previous editions already recognised indigenous language films from East Africa, West Africa, and Southern Africa.
Eligibility for the 2026 awards covers works that were produced, broadcast, or publicly exhibited between January 1 and December 31, 2025. Feature-length films must have been screened in cinemas, aired on television, or released on approved streaming platforms to qualify.
Creators are required to submit full preview copies of their works exactly as they were exhibited or broadcast, alongside completing the online submission process through the official AMVCA portal.
The organisers emphasised that submissions will only be accepted through the designated online platform, reinforcing transparency and standardisation in the selection process. This ensures that all entries are reviewed under the same criteria by the AMVCA jury panel.
Presented by MultiChoice, a subsidiary of Canal+, the AMVCAs remain one of Africa’s most influential award platforms, spotlighting excellence in Nollywood and the broader African creative ecosystem.
Over the years, the awards have played a key role in elevating African stories, talents, and productions to global audiences.
The 12th edition of the AMVCA is set to take place in Lagos, Nigeria, with more details regarding nominees, voting timelines, and event activities expected to be announced in the coming months.
As anticipation builds, the call for entries signals the beginning of another competitive and celebratory awards season for Africa’s film and television industry.
