Nollywood actress and filmmaker Yewande Adekoya has shared a deeply emotional and prayerful message following the death of her colleague, Allwell Ademola, whose passing has continued to weigh heavily on the Yoruba film industry.

Taking to her Instagram page, Adekoya reflected on the pain, grief and unanswered questions that often trail such losses, especially within the creative community. In her post, she turned to God for comfort, healing and renewal, asking Him to console broken hearts and restore hope amid sorrow.

She acknowledged that many have gone through seasons of loss and confusion, and appealed for divine intervention as the year draws to a close.

“Dear God

As we stand at the edge of a new year, we come with hearts that have known pain, loss, and unanswered questions. Please wipe our tears, console our hearts, and heal every place that has been broken. Where sorrow has lingered, breathe peace. Where hope has faded, restore it gently,” she wrote.

Continuing her prayer, the actress asked for renewed strength and faith for those struggling to make sense of recent tragedies, stressing the need to trust God even when life’s journey feels unclear.

“Renew our strength, revive our faith, and remind us that You are still at work — even when we do not understand the path we are on. Let the coming year carry Your light, Your mercy, and Your favour. Turn our mourning into joy, our fears into courage, and our waiting into testimony,” Adekoya added.

She concluded the message with a heartfelt plea for divine guidance and peace in the year ahead, committing lives, dreams and the future into God’s hands.

“Lord, go ahead of us. Make this new year our best year so far — not just in achievements, but in peace, purpose, and closeness to You. We trust You with our hearts, our dreams, and our tomorrow. IJMN. Amen.

Her message has since resonated with many fans and colleagues who are still grappling with the loss of Allwell Ademola, whose death was announced recently and sparked an outpouring of grief across the Yoruba film community.

Adekoya’s prayer joins a growing chorus of reactions from Nollywood figures expressing concern over the increasing number of deaths within the industry and calling for divine intervention.

Popular actor Odunlade Adekola had earlier cried out to God over what he described as the rising wave of deaths affecting Nollywood practitioners. In a heartfelt message, he acknowledged God’s power and pleaded for protection, asking that the door of untimely death be shut permanently against the industry.

Similarly, actress Eniola Badmus recently used her platform to speak against the culture of casually wishing death on others, particularly on social media. She described such behaviour as disturbing and unhealthy, urging Nigerians to embrace compassion and responsibility in their online interactions. According to her, society must do better by choosing kindness and unity over hostility and division.

Adding another perspective to the conversation, actor Yul Edochie had earlier shared his belief that abandoning traditional values contributes to the rise in untimely deaths. He encouraged Nigerians to reconnect with their roots and cultural practices, which he believes offer guidance and balance in life.

Together, these reactions highlight a moment of reflection within the Nollywood community — one marked by grief, spiritual searching and collective prayers for healing, protection and renewal. As colleagues continue to mourn Allwell Ademola, many are hoping for comfort, strength and a more peaceful season ahead for the industry and the nation at large.
