Nollywood star Nkechi Blessing Sunday has opened up about one of the most disturbing challenges she faced at the early stage of her acting career.

Speaking on a recent episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, the actress revealed that her entry into the Nigerian movie industry was met with shocking experiences, including being offered a script containing an extreme and unrealistic scene that she found completely unacceptable.

Nkechi Blessing recalled that, despite being a newcomer eager to make her mark in Nollywood, she was handed a script that required her to “sleep with a dog,” a role she immediately turned down. According to her, such a role would have damaged her reputation before she even had the chance to prove herself.

In her words:

“Despite being a newcomer, I was given a script to sleep with a dog. I rejected it because I can’t start off my career like that. Imagine my first ever movie, I am sleeping with a dog. It doesn’t make sense. It is going to be a tag because whatever you start with is what people would associate you with. I didn’t want to be renowned as someone who sleeps with dogs in movies.”

The actress went on to reveal that while she walked away from the disturbing offer, many other aspiring actresses rushed to take the script.

“So, I rejected that script. But immediately I threw it down, so many girls grabbed it. I’m not sure any of them are in the limelight today,” she added.

Her bold decision later opened the door to her real breakthrough. Nkechi Blessing shared that shortly after refusing the role, she met veteran filmmaker Emeka Duru, who believed in her talent and introduced her to a more reputable project. This connection ultimately landed her a role in “Through The Fire”, produced by the renowned Emem Isong, marking her official and dignified debut in Nollywood.

This revelation has sparked conversations about exploitation in the entertainment industry and the pressure young actors face while trying to gain visibility. Nkechi’s experience stands as a reminder of the importance of boundary-setting, self-respect, and choosing roles that truly align with one’s long-term career goals.
