Popular Nigerian skitmaker Oluwafemi Oladipo, professionally known as Slimcase, has issued a formal apology to the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) following the unauthorized use of its uniform and waste truck in a recent skit.
Sharing a statement on his Instagram page, Slimcase explained that the skit was intended to celebrate the dignity of labour, highlighting the importance of waste management and other professions, rather than misrepresenting LAWMA or its staff.
He wrote, “APOLOGY TO THE LAGOS STATE WASTE MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY (LAWMA) AND ITS PARTNERS WITH REGARDS TO THE VIDEO CONTENT POSTED ONLINE AND MADE WITH LAWMA UNIFORM AND TRUCK… I take full responsibility. The content was my idea and I removed the video from all platforms on 8 December 2025 as soon as concerns were raised.”
Slimcase emphasized that his creative work was not meant to embarrass, ridicule, or demean the agency, its officers, staff, partners, or the Lagos State Government. He stated, “The video was not intended to ridicule, misrepresent, embarrass, or demean LAWMA, its officers, staff, partners or the Lagos State Government. My sole objective was to create creative content intended to promote the dignity of labour and to emphasize that every profession, including waste management, is noble, valuable, and deserving of respect.”
He further clarified that there was no implication of official endorsement or participation by LAWMA, noting, “I did not intend to suggest that LAWMA endorsed or participated in the video, and no related or adapted versions of the video are in circulation.”
The apology comes after concerns were raised by LAWMA and the public regarding the use of its branded uniform and vehicle, which are official symbols of the agency responsible for managing waste and sanitation across Lagos State. The video, initially posted online, quickly drew attention and criticism for appearing to feature LAWMA’s assets without prior approval.
In concluding his statement, Slimcase acknowledged the agency’s important role in maintaining public health and cleanliness in Lagos and pledged to exercise greater caution in future projects. He added, “I have the utmost respect for LAWMA’s work in keeping Lagos clean, and I will ensure that future content reflects the appropriate permissions and respect for organisations and their personnel.”
The incident highlights the growing need for content creators to seek authorization when incorporating public service assets into entertainment projects, especially when such content reaches wide audiences online. While Slimcase’s skit was designed to be a tribute to hardworking professionals, the oversight regarding permissions sparked a broader conversation about intellectual property, official branding, and the ethics of online content creation.
By issuing this public apology, Slimcase has taken responsibility for the misstep, demonstrating accountability and a willingness to maintain positive relations with public institutions. Fans and observers have since lauded the skitmaker for promptly addressing the issue and removing the video from circulation.
As social media content continues to gain influence in Nigeria, the incident serves as a reminder for creators to balance creativity with respect for legal and institutional boundaries, ensuring that their work uplifts rather than inadvertently undermines public institutions.
