Blue Pictures CEO Joy Odiete has announced the launch of Blue Pictures South Africa, a Pan-African motion picture distribution company aimed at expanding the long-term strategy of SIRA – The African Hub.

The new venture, led by Odiete in partnership with Trevor Logan Pillay, director of Adonai Holdings, will focus on building a unified distribution network across Southern Africa and beyond.

Pillay joins as a strategic and operational partner, overseeing the company’s regional rollout, infrastructure development, and cross-border operations.

The launch represents a practical extension of SIRA, a platform Odiete introduced to address gaps between African cinema visibility and global market access.

At the 50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF50), SIRA debuted with curated screenings and industry engagements, connecting African filmmakers directly with international buyers, distributors, and studios.

Odiete emphasized that SIRA was created to move African cinema beyond festival applause and into structured trade, deal-making, and commercial outcomes.

Blue Pictures South Africa formalizes this approach with a dedicated distribution hub positioned to support co-productions, rights negotiations, and multi-territory releases.

The company aims to reduce fragmentation in African film industries, linking markets in Lagos, Accra, Nairobi, and Johannesburg into a cohesive framework.

By doing so, filmmakers can access wider audiences while investors and partners can engage with a streamlined continental market.

Odiete brings decades of experience across theatrical and home entertainment distribution. Under Blue Pictures Entertainment, she has brokered international partnerships and facilitated global circulation of African films.

She has also championed talent development initiatives, including the recent nomination of producer Todimu Adegoke for the European Film Market (EFM) Toolbox Programme 2026, a Berlinale-linked initiative focusing on global market readiness.

Pillay contributes over a decade of experience in cinema operations, hospitality, and media, providing the operational backbone to scale Blue Pictures’ Pan-African ambitions.

His involvement positions South Africa as a strategic base for expanding the company’s distribution reach across the continent.

Blue Pictures South Africa will work closely with filmmakers, investors, and industry stakeholders to increase access to theatrical, digital, and alternative exhibition platforms.

The company’s objectives align with SIRA’s broader mission to professionalize African film distribution, ensure sustainable commercial outcomes, and elevate the international profile of African content.

The launch marks a significant milestone in Pan-African cinema, offering a platform where African films can reach audiences beyond regional boundaries while enabling creators to negotiate rights, funding, and collaborations with global partners.

With its structured approach and cross-border focus, Blue Pictures South Africa is poised to become a central hub for African motion picture distribution, setting a new benchmark for the continent’s film industry.
