Legal representatives of the Senior Pastor of Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministries, also known as Grace Nation Liberation City, Dr. Chris Okafor, have issued a stern warning to social media commentator Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, and a young woman identified as Miss Chi, over what they described as coordinated online attacks and defamatory claims against the cleric.
Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, the pastor’s counsel, Maxwell Okpara, accused the duo of engaging in cyberbullying, harassment, stalking and criminal defamation through social media posts, videos and interviews allegedly circulated online.
According to Okpara, the actions attributed to VeryDarkMan and the woman have damaged Pastor Okafor’s reputation and ministry, prompting legal steps to halt what he described as a “deliberate campaign of falsehood.”
He demanded that all defamatory publications be withdrawn immediately and that a public apology be issued in at least two national newspapers. He also called for the removal of all online content linking Pastor Okafor to allegations of paternity or abandonment.
“The defamatory campaigns against our client must stop immediately. All false publications must be taken down, and a public apology must be made,” Okpara said.
The lawyer further challenged the young woman to submit herself and her sibling to a DNA test at a mutually agreed and reputable medical facility, especially since she had allegedly claimed to possess DNA evidence supporting her assertions.
Failure to comply with these demands, Okpara warned, would leave his client with no option but to “pursue all available legal remedies to protect his reputation, integrity, and ministry.”
Addressing journalists, the lawyer accused VeryDarkMan of abusing his online influence under the guise of activism.
“It has come to our notice that acts of cyber incitement, cyber bullying, cyber harassment, cyber stalking, criminal defamation and malicious impersonation have been carried out against our client by Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, and a young lady who calls herself Miss Chi,” he said.
He alleged that VeryDarkMan published interviews and materials portraying the woman as Pastor Okafor’s biological daughter without any proper verification.
“One is left to wonder how someone who claims to be an activist could recklessly publish such damaging content without first reaching out to our client for his side of the story,” Okpara stated, describing the conduct as “self-serving and designed for cheap publicity.”
Providing background to the dispute, the lawyer explained that during the early years of Pastor Okafor’s ministry, a woman had claimed she was pregnant for him, and he initially accepted responsibility.
“Being a responsible young preacher at the time, our client agreed to marry her,” Okpara said.
However, he added that challenges soon emerged within the relationship, including allegations of misconduct. Matters reportedly worsened when Pastor Okafor was kidnapped and held captive for about 50 days.
“During the period of his abduction, the kidnappers contacted the supposed wife for ransom, but she denied knowing him,” he claimed. “Family members later raised money and handed it to her to help facilitate his release, but she allegedly diverted the funds.”
According to Okpara, Pastor Okafor later regained his freedom “by divine intervention,” after which tensions deepened between him and the woman.
He said questions about the paternity of the children arose following a heated disagreement.
“In the course of an argument, the woman reportedly asked him, ‘Do you even think the children are yours?’ This prompted a DNA test,” the lawyer stated.
He added that the results allegedly showed that neither of the children was biologically related to the pastor.
“The DNA result came back negative for both children. The certificate is in the possession of their mother, and we challenge her to produce it publicly,” Okpara said.
Despite the outcome, the lawyer noted that Pastor Okafor continued to support the children out of compassion, helping with their education and welfare abroad.
“This humanitarian support should not be twisted into an admission of paternity,” he stressed.
He described ongoing claims that the pastor abandoned his family as “false, malicious and defamatory,” adding that presenting the children publicly as Okafor’s amounts to deliberate misrepresentation.
Reiterating their position, Okpara said:
“We demand an immediate retraction of all defamatory statements, a public apology in two national newspapers, an end to all claims of familial ties, submission to a DNA test at an agreed facility, and the removal of all misleading online content.”
He concluded by warning that failure to comply would compel his client to “activate all legal mechanisms available to safeguard his name, dignity and ministry,” stressing that the statement was issued to “set the record straight, halt the spread of falsehoods, and reaffirm our client’s commitment to truth, fairness and integrity.”
