Popular Nollywood actor Ibrahim Yekini, fondly known as Itele, was recently overwhelmed with emotions after receiving an unexpected and heartwarming birthday surprise from his former student and protégé, Kemity, alongside her film students.
The Yoruba movie star, who is set to celebrate his birthday on January 1, did not see the thoughtful gesture coming, especially as it arrived ahead of the actual date. Taking to his Instagram page, Itele shared a touching video capturing the moment Kemity and students of Kemity School of Performing Film Arts (PFA) presented him with a brand-new television as an early birthday gift.
Reacting visibly moved, Itele revealed that although it was not yet his birthday, the surprise meant more to him than words could express. He described the moment as deeply emotional and symbolic, especially because the appreciation came from someone he once mentored and the younger generation he helped inspire.
“It’s not my birthday yet, still Jan 1st…
But my ex-student, my daughter, my first fruit in the industry @kemity and her own students @kemity_schoolofpfa decided to surprise me with
This beautiful TV.
This touched my heart deeply.
To be appreciated by someone you once taught — and by the next generation you inspired — is a rare blessing.
Thank you all for this amazing gift and the love you’ve shown. I’m truly grateful.”
The heartfelt message has since stirred reactions across social media, with fans and colleagues praising the strong mentor-student bond between Itele and Kemity.
Interestingly, the emotional surprise came shortly after the actor reportedly splashed millions of naira on two brand-new cars as birthday gifts to himself. Sharing photos of the luxury vehicles earlier, Itele described the purchase as a personal reward, expressing gratitude for how far he has come in his career.
In a recent interview, the actor shed more light on his long-standing relationship with Kemity, describing her as his first student in the industry. According to him, Kemity served as his apprentice for eight to ten years, during which she proved to be passionate, hardworking, and resilient. He further recalled moments when Kemity supported him financially and stood firmly by him during challenging times, believing in his future success when things were tough.
The story stands as a powerful reminder of loyalty, mentorship, and gratitude within the Nollywood industry.
